Wolfman63
CVN-70 Project - Starting on the island Drilling lots of holes to light up the numbers and adding LED's for the island rooms. The lighted 70 looks funky because the fibers still need trimming after I paint the walls. Over 50' of fiber optic just to light the numbers on one side of the island. Working on the other side next. ghodges
Now that's ingenious, and I'm betting will be a real attention grabber! :smiley20: GIL :smiley16:
Wolfman63
This week I started working on the island. I ran all the fiber optic lines to light up the ship numbers and the yellow flood lights that light up the flight deck. Surprisingly I was able to get the lines routed with room to spare. I also modified the level for the Mk 95 NSSM director bays and added the LED light.
Wolfman63
The lower section of the island is now done. I trimmed the fiber optics and applied the decals.
Wolfman63
The upper levels of the island are together. Need to start building the 19 aircraft that will be placed in the hangar bay so I can assemble and wire up the ship.
Wolfman63
Here is the first proof sheet of the decals for the aircraft. I will be doing all 86 aircraft that was aboard when the ship pulled out of Norfolk Virginia in March of 1983. Still need to do the decals for the A-6's as well as all the numbers for all the aircraft.
dmorrissette
Decals look great. Are you doing them yourself or having someone make / print them? Dave
Wolfman63
I am making them myself. I made all the hangar bay decals as well. The aircraft came with the standard insignias and markings. I just need to make the squadron specific and numbers.
Wolfman63
Here is the rest of the decals. The A-6 squadron and the various numbers and letters for the aircraft. Starting to build aircraft tomorrow.

Wolfman63
Started building and detailing the aircraft for the hangar bay. Adding the photoetched parts on a 1:350 aircraft takes some time. Planning on 28 aircraft staged on the hangar deck. So far eight of the A-7's are built. Plan is to build all, then paint all, and finally decal all.
Wolfman63
Started painting the planes and decided to scratch-build a scaffold for the cockpit. This plane will have it's cockpit open and the scaffold next to it on the hangar deck.
Mark Deliduka
Man that rocks! Outstanding work on that scaffolding. That kinda reminds me of another cutaway build I saw of the USS Wasp LHA that someone did. Inside the hanger he had one of the AV-8's 'opened up' with the Pegasus engine sitting on a dolly next to the plane. Keep going, this is awesome! I can't wait to see more! Wolfman63
I am just about done with the A-7's for the hangar deck. So in terms of time it takes about 3 hours per aircraft to build, detail, paint and decal. I sealed the decals and just need to install the canopies. Then start the F-14's. Here is a picture of the A-7's having decals put on.
Wolfman63
The A-7's are complete and staged in hangar bay 2. The hangar bay is now done. Now on to the F-14's of hangar bay 3.
