luv2bld
Been an automotive modeler for years and starting to give armor a try. My question is what Vallejo or Tamiya colors do you use for modern armor. Both Vallejo and Tamiya have sand, tan, yellows and such but would like to know some basic colors to start with from their lines. Rocky
Warwheels
Rocky. Here's some info that may help. It’s a link to a photo we posted back in 2014 on WarWheels.net via John Charvat: http://www.warwheels.net/images/__CARC_Sand_Faded_FS33531Charvat.jpg . The photo shows an actual piece of US Military equipment that is painted CARC 686 Desert Tan (FS 33446); the current "standard" overall modern US vehicle color. However, it is actually closer in color to FS 33531; which matches the Vallejo Paints also shown in the photo. Also interesting is that other equipment/vehicles have been documented as being painted in a color which more closely resembles the "standard" US FS 33446 color. Whether the color difference is due to use/the elements or due to inconsistencies in paint manufacturing, has not been determined.
