Ron Bell
I'm not an a/c guy but I think I know what a 747 looks like. Hump back top, four engines all on their own pylons on the wings. Right? If not, stop me here. If so, proceed. I was watching Top Gear, the English car show, and in one segment they tow an aircraft with a tractor. The aircraft sure looks like a 747, except the inboard engine pylon (you can only see one side) has two engines mounted on it like on a B-52. Mock up? One off? Test bed? Bad eyes? Got any ideas? TimHortman
Ron, I'm certinly not an expert on civil subjects, but I think what you describe was also in a recent Bond film. There was a link somewhere in the past month on one of the modeling forums which had more detail on the aircraft. IF it's the same one, it was an "ex" 747 made for movie sets. If I can find the link again, I'll post it.
TimHortman
Did a quick Google search and came up with some when I did a search for "James Bond 747" (there were many more results, these were the top 4): http://commanderbond.net/article/3550 http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/1-1-sc...ino-royale.html http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/1-1-sc...ino-royale.html http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/22/touareg...tdi-tows-a-747/ HTH, Tim
Mike Delano
Is this what you're talking about? If so, it's from Casino Royale http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled/Bo...236B/1257474/L/ http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2006/...ied-boeing.html http://dansdata.blogsome.com/2006/12/06/jumbo-of-mystery/
jcorley
The same aircraft showed up on last week's episode of Primeval on BBC America. Except this time it was all white and had a solid blue tail (the basic Air AtlantaEurope/ European Aircharter livery) . I first saw it from a distance with Gigantosaurus (G-Rex they called it) chaisng some poor bloke towards the aircraft which was being loaded at the end of the only (active?) runway. The G-rex bashes it around and eventually they lure it back into the vortex which brought it to our time in the first place. It'd be neat to model... if I could just get 6 engines from a 787! (two double inboard pylons, standard single pylons outboard... B-47 style perhaps with fuel pods between the engines) Lots of views around the aircraft, but never a registry! Several photos of it on Airliners.net The airliner was a Boeing 747-236B (#440) built for BA in 1974 and retired in June 2006

jcorley
I just noticed something. Is it me, or are the nacelles canted outward about 10 degrees?
Ralph Nardone
I just noticed something. Is it me, or are the nacelles canted outward about 10 degrees? Looks that way to me, too. Ralph
TimHortman
They certainly do. Probably because it "looks better" when on the ground for the movie filming.
