Joev259A
I'm interested in scratch building a 1/24 or 1/25 P-2 Air Force crash fire truck (or maybe some of the older crash fire trucks the Air Force used). Are there any vendors who may have the large size tires that they use? thanks.
GaryDavis
Hey Joe...maybe you could post a few pics of the truck and tires that you're looking for. I have no clue as to what they look like. If I could see them...then maybe I can see what I can find for you.
Joev259A
According to the tech order, they were Goodyear 16.00 X 25-24 ply tire. I attached two pictures ( I hope). Joe V.
GaryDavis
Hey Joe...as close as I've found so far are some of the tires and wheels off of the big rig kits. The front tire of the ERTL IH Paystar 5000 Dump Truck looks like it might be wide enough. The tread pattern isn't the same as your examples though. The rear tires do have the correct tread pattern but I think are to narrow as they are a dullie set up. The Wheels from the dulies in the back look like they'd work for the tires from the front. It could be a hard kit to find. Maybe EBAY? Hope this helps you Joe.... I just went on ebay and found this.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-Inc-1-25-03-Jeep-Wrangler-Rubicon-Plastic-Model-Kit-85-4053-RMX854053/391057794989?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D7cc5cfc77c334ce9b9709160608f27d5%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D390875918067&rt=nc (just click on the link) I think it's less spendy going this way...you might have to buy 2 kits to get all the tires..(unless you cast your own). Also...the wheels might have to be sourced from a big rig kit.... Edited May 25, 2015 by GaryDavis
Joev259A
Thanks. I'm familiar with the Ertl line, but I was hoping that maybe a cottage company might have them available (a long shot I thought). Anyway, perhaps I'll modify my thoughts and wonder about building this in 1/35 scale. The reason is I was looking at the HEMTT specifications and noticed their tires were 16.00x 20, and the rim is 20x10. Except for the tire pattern, would this work? Joe V. GaryDavis
Those look good to me Joe. If they work for you....then I'd go with it. This sure would be a cool subject to watch you build in a W.I.P here on the forum....
ewahl
Hi, Joe, In 1/35 scale there is a set of resin aftermarket tires and rims for the M977 HEMTT Oshkosh Trucks. Each tire/rim is a single solid casting, not two hollow halves as produced by Italeri. The set is produced by MR Modellbau as Kit #MRA-3512. The tread pattern is different than the Italeri version. Good luck! Ed
