mustang1989
.I started work on the common fuel rail for the carburetors. I used .062" diameter solder as a basis for it and drilled two holes in the sides for the fuel inlet lines to the carbs and one in the end at the back of the fuel rail for the fuel inlet line from the fuel pump. I shot some gloss black over it and set it aside to dry. After a few days I shot a coat of chrome alclad over it to give it a nice shine.I put the air inlet horns on top of the carburetors and man does that engine stand tall in the frame! I feel pretty good about where I'm at with this build right now.As I put this build back up in its holding cell I noticed that the "down low" view gave it an even more aggressive stance so I brought it back down and took a picture of it that way..... {C} {C}
mustang1989
. Well I've got the fuel line installed and routed. I used a pin for chrome fuel line and coated it with some Tamiya Smoke X-19 to give it that true metal look and made a 90 degree banjo fitting to go onto the fuel rail at the carbs. Check it out....I started on the inner fender wells yesterday by removing all that nasty molded on detail and cleaned it up and painted it.Before:And after. (This still needs to cure out so I can polish it up and make it into a mirror finish but you can see the difference so far)
Mark Deliduka
This is brilliant work! Way to go! I also like the view of the engine from street view.
mustang1989
Thanks Mark and Jim! :D Started work on the "carpet" and spot corrected here and there. I still had a little trimming left to do at this point but it was good enough for a pic here. While I'm at it the dash is pretty much finished. mustang1989
Thanks Jim! I didn't much like the seating that came in the original boxing (and never really have to tell you the truth).....So I upgraded from the 1/24 Monogram 55 F-100 kit seat which looks a helluva lot more up-to-date and a lot neater in appearance. (I'm glad I bought that kit in the beginning to supplement this build.)After a lot of clean up on the seat platform I washed both parts and hit 'em with some primer. More coming......... mustang1989
'Preciate it Jim! Well here we are with the interior about 70-80% completed. The aluminum steering column helped ALOT as well as the steering wheel from the Barris T Buggy kit. All brake and accelerator pedals (notice the "bare foot" accelerator pedal) are PE as well as the Hot Rod Magazine in the front seat. Instrument panel and radio trim are Chrome BMF. The steering wheel spokes and center are AB'd with Alclad. I still have a set of keys and some Oakley sunglasses to paint up and adhere to the seat beside the magazine. I've got some clean up to do here and there but it's getting closer folks.....and a far off shot to show overall progress....
mustang1989
Thanks Jim! Final details on the seat. And yes, that is a set of keys on the seat. The key ring was made from robbing coil winding wire from a spare fuel pump relay I've got in my spares drawer of my 1:1 scale automotive tool box. I wrapped it around a toothpick , slid the keys on it and painted it. Then I got a set of Oakley sunglasses and painted 'em up to top everything off. mustang1989
. At this point started slingin' paint. I used Tamiya acrylic gloss red for the paint and folks I'm going to tell you this......This'll be the LAST FRIGGIN' TIME I use acrylic paint for a gloss. I've tried jackin' with air pressure and thinning / mixture ratios across a broad spectrum , holdin' my mouth just right and all and no matter what I do it comes out with a slight orange peel to it. I've spent all KINDS of time wet sanding the finish down to an acceptable smoothness to apply a gloss coat on. It looks decent and all but next time I'll be going with Model Master enamels ALL the way. All's I have to say is.....SHEESH!!!! The initial paint job on the body............... Mark Deliduka
I know how you feel. I was having a similar effect on my Saturn V when I tried painting it white. I went with a flat white instead and then clearcoated it afterward to make it a semi-gloss coat. I love Model Master enamel paints for airbrushing too. mustang1989
I remember the issues that you were having on that Saturn Mark. Yeah I think I'm done with acrylics as a finish coat on automotive subjects from here on out. I just wasn't feelin' the paint job from earlier so in the brake fluid it went to strip everything and started the whole process over again only this time the paint came out smoother and I actually made it to the clear coat this time around Here it is with the paint and the clear. I still have to apply the flames (which I had ordered an adhesive template from Australia) and clear it again. Then it'll be down to polishing and buffing out the clear. We're gettin' there folks! Here's a mock up with the grille just stuck in place: Edited September 30, 2015 by mustang1989
mustang1989
. So far so good here. Here's a quick test fit. I need to raise the body up just a tad off the frame in the front but I'm likin' it so far. Flames came in a couple of days ago so I hope to get started on that pretty quick. Now that it's the same color , that 429 Boss hood scoop looks right at home on the hood. I'm Edited October 1, 2015 by mustang1989

mustang1989
Thanks Mark. Hopefully the flame'll go on this weekend. After that will be the clear and then I can finally start assembling this thing.
mustang1989
.Well, I got the flames on the hood today. I shot 'em a shade darker than the Tamiya X-7 Red base color just to add a subtle effect. I still have to wet sand some of the roughness out before one more clear coat. Here's the hood..............Here's another view that shows the whole front clip with flames. I was going for a really subtle look going for the "Ghost of Street Demons" look to pay tribute to the Street Demons series of this truck released back in 1983. Just gotta smooth it a little and go for another coat of gloss clear. We're off to the races now. lol
mustang1989
I will resume work on this baby next week. Till then I'm putting all the efforts and time to into the polishing touches on these baby's for the show in Austin this weekend....
mustang1989
. Show's over!!! I'm back on this one 100% as of this morning. First things first, I chunked the hood into the brake fluid this morning. I didn't even look back as I'm ready to just start over with that part. I had some fit issues with the side step fit interference at the front of the rear fender blister area at both sides. Fortunately I don't have to trim anything as it is an assembly order thing. All I have to do is install the bed first and then the steps so that problem is solved thankfully!! If any of you guys are going to the San Antonio show I'll most likely be done with this one in time for that. This morning I installed the tail lights and license plate. Here's a bed test fit to show the results of that........
mustang1989
.This morning I cut about a 1/2" off of each side of the rear bumper and currently have it immersed in brake fluid to remove the chrome plating. After it comes out of there I'll clean it up and treat it to a coat of Alclad II chrome and buff it out. Looks like some license plate PE retaining hardware is in order. I'll get to work on that. The overall fit and look:

mustang1989
Thanks Mark!! I've got the chrome off the bumper, washed it with soap and cold water and will be priming it gloss black in the morning.
mustang1989
Just to show that I'm still pluggin away at this ol' mule I snapped some shots of the most recent gloss coat this morning. There are still a few traces of cracks but I'm going to be wet sanding that out and polishing that all out with the Novus. I believe this will be the final coat of gloss on the body. I managed to shoot the same coat of gloss on my hood.................again!!! Hood has the same shine as the body here.If you look closely you can see the flames where there isn't a shine. It's what I was aiming for.....a VERY subtle hint of flames.
Mark Deliduka
Beautiful shine man! I'm trying desperately to get that same kind of shine to no effect. I suck at that. You truly are a master at the smooth, shiny finish. I love the subtle flames on that as well! You rock!
mustang1989
Man thanks a lot Mark and Jim. This thing is tryin' me I've gotta say. mustang1989
.All I've gotta say is that when I did the gloss coat on my Challenger build a few months back either 1.) God was with me , 2.) the stars were all lined up just right, 3.) Hell did in fact freeze over or 4.) it must have been pure dumb luck because this paint job here has given me a run for my money!!! I'm still in the fight and aint giving up though!!! This morning I wet sanded all the minor cracking I saw in the gloss finish over the flames on the body and polished the heck out of it with Novus 2. I also repainted the flames on the 4th friggin paint job on this hood and will be letting that all gas out for 3 or 4 days before attempting another gloss coat on it. The roof got a wet sanding and polishing as well and I glued two retaining screw heads onto the rear license plate to tidy that up a little. It was a busy morning since 3:30 a.m. and I got to spend 4 solid hours on this thing so I feel like I got a lot done with it.I ended up lightening the pics up a little so the flames can be seen a little better. Under the right lighting these things jump out at you.You can see where the finish is a lot smoother in this photo particularly at the front of the fender area. I'm surprising myself with these results. The flames on the hood came out better this time around IMO because I thinned the decanted paint a little more and got it to come out a little smoother. Here's a shot with everything installed as it's gonna be. So far I've got good feelin's about this time 'round.....
Greyhound
Joseph- I have not had a chance to comment on your build until now. I went back to your first posts and all I can say is that you have come a long way from the Blue Pickup you started with. Not many modelers I know will strip a paint job and start over when they don't like how it came out. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to seeing it finished.
