hello there

can someone help me here

I have a AFV long tom cannon kit and it comes with a aluminum barrel

my question is how do I go about painting the barrel when attached to the plastic do I

prime it along with the plastic will the primer stick to the metal do I have to sand the barrel or leave it shine I've heard some where that metal should be scorched for the primer to stick is it true

Without seeing the finish on the barrel, I'm going to say that a light sanding with 400 grit paper would not go amiss. It would give the primer some "tooth" to hang on to. As to primer, DO NOT USE AN ACRYLIC. It might stick at first, but may pull off or just mis-behave later. Acrylics just do not stick to metal well. Use an oil based primer, but not lacquer as that may damage the plastic parts. You don't have to scorch anything if you use an oil primer. Once everything is primed, then paint and finish as normal.

I use metal barrels all the time. As long as you prime the model you can paint with acrylics. I use the Tamiya grey primer in a spray can. Have always had good luck with it.
