  1. Very, very nice! I didn't know Airfix put one out.
  2. After a nearly 2 1/2 year hiatus from scale modeling, I chose this project to blow the dust off of my creativity. All told, I spent about a month from start to completion. This model depicts a Bf 109G-6 of 7./JG3 -White 10 + Black I, Bad Worishofen, 1944. The venerable Hasegawa kit speaks for itself, and there is no issues with assembly. In fact, there was no filler needed anywhere on the airframe. The only aftermarket I added was an Eduard PE seat harness. Chrome Bare Metal Foil was wrapped around the hydraulic oleo struts. The markings were from an 18 year-old Cutting Edge (Meteor Productions) sheet. Back in the day, Cutting Edge decals were my go-to for aftermarket markings. This sheet, however, gave me fits. The spiralschnauze would not lay down, so I substituted it with one from an old Eagle Strike sheet. After, of course, sanding the spinner clean and repainting/glossing. The meteors fractured in several spots, necessitating touch-ups with white paint. But, the strangest thing was the fuselage Balkenkreuze-both sides, after being set with Mr. Mark Softer, and clear coated, weathered, and semi-gloss coated-lifted from the plastic and bubbled up! Granted, the Mr. Mark Softer was maybe 6 or 7 years old, and there was not much left in the bottle, so that may have played a factor. So, I stripped the fuselage of those two decals, cleaned up the areas, re-painted the areas, re-glossed the areas, and used the kit’s markings. These performed well. The antennae wire is stretched sprue. Having not completed (or really worked on anything for that matter) for nearly three years made this project a humbling experience. There’s a lot of room for improvement, and I have a lot of work to do in the future. Thanks for looking…
  3. Thanks....! We've been going to Vegas once or twice a year for the past 7 years or so. There's definitely no shortage of fun, that's for sure! We usually stay at The Cosmopolitan or Palms.
  4. What type of banquet requirements does the Rio have?
  5. I'm absolutely thrilled by this news!! We go to Vegas once or twice a year, but next year we're missing out due to other trips/obligations. So, to return in 2021 to the world's biggest model show in my Happy Place...? YEEEESSSSSS!
  6. Please be in Vegas Please be in Vegas Please be in Vegas Please be in Vegas
  7. I started this kit back in November 2016, when it was released. As the Tomcat is a complex machine, so is every model kit of it. I worked on this off and on, fighting boredom and loss of interest for 3.5 months. It's a very, very good kit - the intake trunking are genius-level engineering. Really. However, the cockpit detail is soft, the main landing gear legs DO NOT need to be in three pieces (3 seams on a cylinder, thanks so much), and those issues irritated me. I do, however, like how the underwing stores/weapons are laid out - those are my modern jet albatrosses (albatrii?). The weapons go together easily, and the myriad of stencils are laid out numerically and logically on the decal sheet. Ironically, this was my favorite part, next to the intake trunking. Decals were mainly from an Afterburner Decals sheet, depicting a machine in operation during my tenure with VF-84. I have some good stories about Fred "Bad Fred" Lewis, lol! We had a lot of fun on a Key West det. The stencils were from the kit. Is this the best 1/48 Tomcat kit on the market? Yes. Is this Tamiya's best kit? No. No, it's not. 1. 1/32 F4U-1A/D Corsair 2. 1/48 Feisler Storch 3. 1/12 Yamaha YZR-M1 4. 1/48 F-14A Tomcat (probably) Anyways, here are some photos:
  8. An old kit from the 1970s, but went together very well. No putty or filler needed anywhere. Painted with Gunze-Sangyo acrylics, and markings are from an old Cutting Edge sheet. The only modifications done were drilling out the gun barrels. MiG enamel washes were used, as well. I really like those products so far...
  9. If it's a 2LT, he's lost. Great model, Ed.
  10. When I get dressed up...especially in a suit...I look so fine your heads would explode. Therefore, in everyone's best interest, I shall remain casual. You're welcome.
  11. "will do their research and send me every picture they can on weathered aircraft(without doing research) " Um...what? See ya in 6 months, Sarge.
  12. I'd rather just see good quality convention photos....
