  1. I started this kit back in November 2016, when it was released. As the Tomcat is a complex machine, so is every model kit of it. I worked on this off and on, fighting boredom and loss of interest for 3.5 months. It's a very, very good kit - the intake trunking are genius-level engineering. Really. However, the cockpit detail is soft, the main landing gear legs DO NOT need to be in three pieces (3 seams on a cylinder, thanks so much), and those issues irritated me. I do, however, like how the underwing stores/weapons are laid out - those are my modern jet albatrosses (albatrii?). The weapons go together easily, and the myriad of stencils are laid out numerically and logically on the decal sheet. Ironically, this was my favorite part, next to the intake trunking. Decals were mainly from an Afterburner Decals sheet, depicting a machine in operation during my tenure with VF-84. I have some good stories about Fred "Bad Fred" Lewis, lol! We had a lot of fun on a Key West det. The stencils were from the kit. Is this the best 1/48 Tomcat kit on the market? Yes. Is this Tamiya's best kit? No. No, it's not. 1. 1/32 F4U-1A/D Corsair 2. 1/48 Feisler Storch 3. 1/12 Yamaha YZR-M1 4. 1/48 F-14A Tomcat (probably) Anyways, here are some photos:
  2. An old kit from the 1970s, but went together very well. No putty or filler needed anywhere. Painted with Gunze-Sangyo acrylics, and markings are from an old Cutting Edge sheet. The only modifications done were drilling out the gun barrels. MiG enamel washes were used, as well. I really like those products so far...
  3. If it's a 2LT, he's lost. Great model, Ed.
  4. When I get dressed up...especially in a suit...I look so fine your heads would explode. Therefore, in everyone's best interest, I shall remain casual. You're welcome.
  5. "will do their research and send me every picture they can on weathered aircraft(without doing research) " Um...what? See ya in 6 months, Sarge.
  6. I'd rather just see good quality convention photos....
  7. Thanks, Gil. They're all decals. Left wing, right wing, forward and aft fuselage, left and right tail empennage.
  8. Built OOB Tamiya acrylics...
  9. I read those posts "over there" yesterday too. I had no idea that this was a thing. Seems like a risky investment for the buyer, unless you are very, very successful on EBay (or wherever you turn them over). However, if I were the seller, and the price was right....I'm closing early!
  10. I've uploaded 105 pics from the Pittsburgh contest yesterday at this link: https://marinedad.smugmug.com/TRIPMS-2016/

  13. Thank you everyone! Hi Ken, I really like them. I got 2 Luftwaffe sets in Cleveland that day, too (from John Bonnani). I thinned it with distilled water, but that was too thin. So, I sprayed it straight, and it was perfect. So.... a suitable substitute for Gunze Aqueous? I guess they'll have to be lol. I'm glad I tried them, theyre very good.
  14. 1/32 Hasegawa Focke-Wulf FW-190A-8 built OOB, except for an Eduard PE seat harness. AK Interactive acrylic paints, except for the RLM 74-it was a bit light, so I used Gunze-Sangyo. The base is from Zoukie-Mura. Weathered with oils. I really managed to create myself a lot of problems with this simple, easy to build kit….so I’m happy that this one is behind me.
  15. Yeah...he thinks he's a cat sometimes, I think. Fortunately he doesn't climb onto the workbench.
  16. Nope. Cracker Snacker Moochy Pooch.
