  1. As opposed to perhaps a vegetarian meal? Otherwise, yes, it's a buffet meal. Steve
  2. Agree, Gil, but we're not going to get anywhere close to that 'buy tickets to seminars' thing. That would instantly get rumored around that we were charging everyone for going to seminars and that would be an ugly mess to straighten out. And, as Jim said, that should be one of the perks of membership and registration. Steve
  3. Guys, Here's the menu for the buffet at the banquet. And yes, it's is served buffet style. However, I wouldn't be concerned about running out of anything. And I can tell you from personal experience, these people make good Italian food. Steve Italian Buffet Dinner Caesar Salad Crisp Romaine, Garlic Croutons and Parmesan Cheese Creamy Caesar Dressing (On the Side) Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella Salad Rigatoni Pasta Salad Grilled Vegetables Tossed with Rigatoni Pasta, Olives and Parmesan Cheese Fettuccini Alfredo with Grilled Chicken Meat Lasagna Penne Pasta Primavera Bread Sticks Olive Oil Bread with Rosemary and Sea Salt (Cut into Squares) Individual Assorted Panacatta / Based on 3 Per Person Lemon Coconut White Chocolate Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Hot Tea and Ice Tea
  4. To clarify, general admission allows entry into the vendor room and the contest room but does not permit you to enter models in the contest or for display nor entry into the seminars or IPMS/USA meetings. Steve
  5. I will get specific information from the hotel and post it here as soon as possible. To my knowledge, it will be identical to the 2010 banquet, where you get in line and serve yourself. It worked very well then and I'm pretty sure nobody went away hungry. Steve
  6. Thanks, Ralph. Sorry you can't make it. We'll miss seeing you. Steve
  7. Yes, Nick, the train would go west from the 44th St Metro Station to get to the 3rs St/Washington stop. Walk west to the first corner, which will be 2nd Street. Turn right and the hotel will be in view a short block north of you on the left. Please let us know if there are any more questions. We'll be glad to help you in any way we can. Steve
  8. And SprueBrothers is supporting us, too. As you'll see when you get to the show. Steve
  9. Nick is correct. Light Rail is quick, convenient, and inexpensive. Nearest stop is about a block away. Lots of pelicans in the area if you don't want to make the walk, though. Also, Uber and Lyft are very active in the vicinity of the airport and it's about a 5-10 minute ride. Steve
  10. What sort of rumors are you hearing, Jorge? Steve
  11. Mike, As you can see, it's an on-going process. As new vendors sign up and send in their contract, Kevin gathers their information and updates the map and forwards it to Tim, our webguy. tim, in turn, updates the website with the new list and the new version of the map. Hope to see you in August. Steve
  12. After a quick glance at the Tours page on our website, I noticed that the way the Pima tour blurb is written, it is implied that you need an advance reservation and security check to go to the Pima museum. What it really means (and this is being corrected immediately) is that these two things are only needed for the AMARG tour that is run from the Pima Air and Space Museum onto Davis Monthan Air Force Base. My apologies for any misunderstanding this may have caused. If you know of someone who decided not to do the Pima tour because of this, please let them know of the correct information. For those of you wondering if it’s worth the trip back to Pima, since you were just there in 2010, below is a list of aircraft of some of the 53 aircraft that have been added to the collection since then. Some (noted with an asterisk) are not on display but are visible from museum grounds. The remainder of the new acquisitions not shown here are undergoing restoration and aren’t available to the public. It’s a growing collection, with many of the aircraft now located indoors in well-lit, well-air conditioned buildings and hangars. Definitely worth the trip. 13. Pete, You should receive a receipt from the shopping cart system when you complete your transaction. As Jim said, that will function as your confirmation since Jim uses an electronic copy of that (minus your payment method information) to enter you into the registration system. If your information is correct on that receipt, it should be correct in Jim's registration system. If it is still a concern, I can get with Jim and do what I can to allay that concern. Steve
  14. As Nick was saying above, approach the TSA with the right attitude and you shouldn't have any problems. You can also request that they hand check the container with the models because of their delicacy. It's worked for me. And most recently, I've used small clear plastic containers made by a company called Snapware because of the way the lids attach and the convenient handles. No endorsement, no attachment, just what I found to be practical. Steve
  15. As you know, the Hyatt Regency Hotel is our convention hotel. It is located right across the street from the entrance to the convention center. Rooms are going like hotcakes, but we're not sold out. But, that's only because we have a significant percentage of the hotel rooms in our room block. The one thing to be aware of is that king-bed rooms are selling quickly. However, we still have plenty of two-queen-bed rooms available. If you try to book a reservation at the hotel and get a 'no rooms at the inn' type of notice, check what you've asked for, because they king bed rooms will be sold out soon. Just change your request to a queen bed room and you should be able to book your room. If you continue to have difficulties, contact me at conventionchair@ipmsusanationals2018.org or Dick Christ at dick@thehobbydepot.com. We'll help work it out for you. Based on room nights booked, we expect to have lots of people at the convention. We hope you're one of them. See you in August. Steve
  16. It has come to our attention that vendors may be contacted by a company called Convention Housing Planners, or other similar companies. They may tell you they are the official hotel booking company for our convention. This is not true. We do not have an official hotel booking company. The only way to get the hotel rooms at our convention rate, with a guarantee that your room reservation actually exists, is to use the link on our website for Reservations. The website is located at www.ipmsusanationals2018.org. Reservations made through any method other than the link will be at your own risk. We look forward to having you all visit us in Phoenix and we want your visit to be the best experience possible. See you in August! Steve Collins, Convention Chairman
  17. Everything is fixed with the email addresses. They've been tested and all work now. Steve
  18. Folks, it looks like a small error crept in when the webpage was being set up. The email addresses on the contacts page are incorrect. All are missing the 'usa' part in the middle. If you're trying to contact any of the people with links, the email addresses are: conventionchair@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Chairman (Steve Collins) vendorboss@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Vendor Coordinator(Kevin Henthorn) contestchair@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Contest Coordinator (Jim Clark) registrar@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Registration (Jim Pearsall) communications@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Advertising and sponsorship (Mike Ronnau) seminars@ipmsusanationals2018.org - Seminars (Mike Mackowski) and lastly, if you need general information, use: info@ipmsusanationals2018.org - General Information I'm very sorry for the confusion. If you've tried to contact us before and got a bounce message, try again using these email addresses. If, for some strange reason, that fails, message me here and I'll get to the bottom of it. Steve
  19. Mike, Good suggestion. I'll bring that up to the hotel contact. Phil, it's about 4 - 4 1/2 hours from Vegas to Phoenix, depending on time of day, for your planning purposes. Nick, yes, I saw that. Looks like I'll have to find someone to take my Saturday tickets. My luck it'll be a bobblehead day (yes, I collect the damned things). Steve
  20. Mark and Nick, I'll talk to the hotel people. They've been very helpful so far. I'm pretty sure that, if someone decides not to go and just cancels their reservation after the cutoff date, it will be a loss to us, but they're agreeable to letting people take over others' reservations. I'll see about setting up some sort of exchange so people can post the availability of a reservation and swap it with someone. Steve
  21. The hotel didn't do it, we did it in conjunction with the hotel, after a discussion with their management. After all, they have a lot more experience with hotel reservation trends than we do. The longer it goes, the more people get tempted to use a third-party reservation service to secure rooms. Problem with that is we don't get credit for the room nights and they don't get the convention rate. So, we set the date sufficiently far out for us to let everyone know, as we said we would. Thanks for the question, Nick. Hope to see you in August. Steve
  22. The hotel reservations will go live on 30 September. The hotel is the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. Room rates will be $135 for one or two people. No reason for panic. Our room block is sufficiently large that you should be fine, so long as we don't have too many people booking five rooms "just in case." Thanks, and we'll see you in August! Steve Collins 2018 National Convention Chairman

Yes Additional info: The 1/192 scale USS Casco kit is easy to construct with few parts, making an excellent kit for a first time multi-media kit builder. It includes an extensive photo etched sheet to create every detail and allow anyone to create an exact replica of this historical ironclad. John Ericsson developed the original design for the Casco class monitors, but Chief Engineer Alben B. Stimers, the General Inspector for Ironclads, elaborated on Ericsson's design. When bids were requested for the ships, Assistant secretary of the Navy, Augustus Fox, wrote to Ericsson to confirm that Stimers had arranged the details with Ericsson's approval. Ericsson replied that he had been kept in the dark and that Stimers had "frittered away" Ericsson's principals, but in March, 1863 Fox had begun to award contracts anyway. $14 million US was allocated for the vessels. It was then discovered that the designers in charge failed to allow for the extra weight their revisions caused. Ericsson was finally put back in charge to fix the problems of the first eight vessels built. They had their turrets removed and a single pivot mounted an 11" (288mm) Dahlgren cannon as well as torpedo equipment added and they were used as torpedo boats.
