  2. Unfortunately I didn't get to Nooga' (due to last minute problems). 😷 Sigh.... Not meant to be. But I want to add my deep appreciation to Lynn and Milk for their doing everything they could to assist me in getting there. Another example of their exemplary efforts for us.
  3. Reservation made at Marriott!😀 BTW - July/August Journal received and 2018 Convention Coverage will be in Sept/Oct Journal.
  4. Bookmarked and Very Much Appreciated. 👍 Looking forward to seeing everyone again.😀
  5. How about a work-around? Something like treating such a chapter's listing as two chapter names - for example : IPMS/SheldonCooper_a and IPMS/Sheldon Cooper_b. Or otherwise "doctoring" their Calendar database selection/sorting IDs. In this case I'd consider "." and ":", less noticeable than "_a" and "_b". just a though Ralph
  6. Eric, I think your Chapter Meeting Calendar will be very useful to our members. Your design is excellent with flexible options and very user friendly. Kudos to you.😀 TAKE CARE,
  7. I have always enjoyed the Bid presentations, making my selection, and then hearing the winner announced at the Banquet. 😀 The suspense is fun!
  8. David, Happy to see you are enjoying our Conventions. I went to yours in Y2K and it was GREAT. You guys really Welcomed me royally I can contribute my Norfolk 14 and Columbia 16 Pins, Sorry, I didn't go to Omaha 17 so don't have that Pin. I am not going to Phoenix this year but I can snail-mail you the 14 and 17 Convention Pins. Could you send your Postal address vie ralf7@verion.net? Happy to Help and TKE CARE, Ralph
  9. Dick, Really great build and an eye-catching beautiful color scheme to behold. Envy.. Envy.. Envy....... :-) Hope to see you, and this Vindicator - maybe(?), in Nooga' next year. Can't make Phoenix but will be thinking of you all with fond memories. Thanks for sharing and TAKE CARE, Ralph
  10. Agree with Pete - Johnny's = GREAT Steaks!!! One of the Best I've ever had. They even offer a Bar Stool that Clint Eastwood once occupied there.
  11. I would like to resurrect this topic as some new Convention attendees might be interested. This discussion got pretty lively last year!! :o Please consider this discussion as a guideline - NOT a rule.
  12. Great idea Gil , and Follow-up implementation Eric Big Thank You,
  13. Received mine in todays snail-mail. Another EXCELLENT issue covering the GREAT Convention.. My APPLAUSE to the staff and contributors. TAKE CARE,
  14. Thank you all for your input and well-stated views on this Topic - including a woman's opinion (Thanks Jodie) and even a "1 picture is worth a 1,000 words" view point (Thanks Pete). We now have many other's views to consider. It was very gratifying to see over 775 views of this topic reflecting a high interest. The objective was never to propose a Required Dress Code for the banquet; but rather to; 1. hold a discussion to raise our awareness of how others felt about the subject and 2. perhaps offer a suggested Banquet attire. I think we accomplished these goals. Thank You all again.
  15. Jodie First - Thank You for your "Superb Work" on the Convention Staff. I enjoyed talking with you after the Banquet in the Model Room. You said - "I tell my students while preparing them for the workforce: how you present yourself not only influences how seriously people will take you, but also indicates the respect you have for where you are, who you're with, and why you're there.' VERY WELL PUT and another excellent guideline for one's life. My wife was a 1st and 2nd Grade Teacher for 43 years and you Teachers do a wonderful, and grossly under appreciated, job for us all (children, parents, and society). Living with a teacher I saw the dedication and hard work you devote to both your classwork preparation and preparing your children for their life ahead. I'm a retired Engineer and my wife worked harder than I ever did - I kid you not!
  16. In the 25-30 National Conventions I've attended to; I've only witnessed 2 minor, but unpleasant, behavior problems. IPMS/Worldf members are exceptionally pleasant people to associate with.
  17. The Convention Banquet has always been a nice way to end the Convention. But we seem to have slipped into a rather careless attitude about it. We see people attending the Banquet very carelessly dressed - well-worn Jeans, faded T-sirts, wearing Hats during the meal, etc. Hardly the dignity expected at such an occasion - We are not eating at MacDonolds. The first Convention Banquet I attended (Washington, D.C. 1968) most of us wore a Coat and Tie and were neatly dressed. I realize that was a long time ago and "casual" is more popular today. But there are various degrees of "casual". I prefer "Upscale casual". That is; clean long pants, a Shirt with collar, and no hat worn during dinner. I propose we consider adopting "Upscale Casual" per above as the "suggested" Convention Banquet Attire. Your Thoughts?
  18. WOW!!! Beautiful and skillfull execution of your idea. Lucy friend and SAFE TRIP. See you in Columbia.
  19. Gil, Well said in your usual manner. I've been to many Conventions since 1968 with the clear understanding of the what and why of a Banouet Ticket purchase. I did skip the Banquet one year, ended up sitting on the floor in the back of the room, and regretted it every since. Never again!! Most of us old Graybeards have learned to; 1. Register for our Convention Hotel room as EARLY as we can ✔️ AND purchase a Banquet ticket.✔️ There, I've played my old guy card for today. See you in Columbia,
  20. I look at it this way - The Banquet is a very good dinner, with modeling friends (old and new) around the table, is an excellent way to end an enjoyable Convention - and they all are IMO. Besides, the Banquet (one $$ price) really doesn't cost that much more compared to a nice decent dinner (Meal$$ +Drink$ +Desert$ +Tip$) outside the Hotel. BTW, How many of us spend more at the Vendors on a model kit/s (which we may or may not actually build) that costs as much as the Banquet Ticket. I go to the Banquet every year - Except one! I skipped the Banquet and ended up sitting on the floor outside the Banquet Room. I've regretted it every since and vowed "Never Again!" Now I look at it the Banquet Ticket as a good buy IMO.
  21. Jared, Ken, And James, Thank you for your very interesting plots. Obviously, the technology has really advanced since I did my plot over 45years ago. Ken, I hope the Omaha group has, and will provide their data from their last convention. Jared, I might be able to help with the National membership plot(?).My e-mail address is: ralf7@verizon.net I think all you really need is the member's Zip Codes --->>> stay tuned.... Guys, I think we are on to something very promising here :-) More later and TAKE CARE, Ralph
  22. Eric, When I did the membership distribution map I used the following procedure; 1. Using the active membership list (need only member Zip Codes) a. Sort by Zip Code b. Sum number of members in each Zip Code into minor groups 2. Append applicable latitude and longitude to each Zip Code minor group a. Sort by minor Zip Code groups in decending number of members order 3. Starting with the largest minor group a. Calculate the mileage difference based on difference in latitude and longitude) between the next Zip Code groups b. If the milage difference is less than, say 15/? miles, then add the second smaller group to the larger group and Delete the second group from the list c. Continua for remaining Zip Code minor groups 4. Repeat Step 3 starting with the next largest group until all Zip Code minor-groups have been assigned to Zip Code major groups. The remaining Zip Code major groups will be central and include smaller groups within 15/? miles. Three further points; 1. You only need to use the first 3 digits of the member Zip Codes to group members. I think I applied a break-point programming technique to do this. 2. There are lots of formulas on the Internet that measure distance between two map coordinates 3. Find a Plotter that will plot and size the Zip Code major membership group's coordinates on a US Map outline. Of course I'll be happy too help where I can.
  23. James, Just my opinion and wish I had the resources to update it. I offer it to serve at least as a rough approximation illustrating our: 1. Wide distribution of member clusters 2, Convention location consideration obstacles and/or opportunities. Such maps, even outdated, can be helpful.
