  1. Dan, Yep, been to the Museum but that has been a while. The car club also sponsors the auto awards at the Ogden or Salt Lake contests. Just wish we could get all three clubs together and go for another Nats. I wasn't in state yet when they hosted in 1980 and sounded like they lost a bit of cash. Made all the old timers pretty gun shy. But if all 3 could get together, should be enough manpower to pull off a good show. Been a while since I have been up to Park City also. Still haven't made Bear Lake, maybe someday. Lots of stuff to do here.
  2. Thanks for the pictures. I have lived here now for almost 28 years and have only made it to one or two of these. Didn't even see any advertising for it this year.
  3. My Dad forwarded this to me and got to admit, I wasted a bit of time looking through this. http://www.nmusafvirtualtour.com/full/tour-pkg.html Still got to make it here some time and see it in the flesh but this works for now. Though the lighting looks better than most describe on their visits. Maybe they listened.

    Monogram M-48

Think I built every one of their US armor kits except this one and only a couple of their German armor kits. Liked them for the Shep Paine dio sheets.
  5. I have done a few and have several others in the stash. Academy Dodge Ambulance and Tow Tractor Academy HEMTT And their crappy Jeep
  6. Nothing wrong with a What If build. Currently working on a Tuskegee Airmen P-80 circa 1946.

    AH-1G Cobra

Built the Monogram kit a few years ago for the Ft Douglas Museum. Definitely needs to be rereleased or have an upgraded version made.
  8. One of my Dad's buddies sent these from his deployment (Blackhawk pilot).
  9. Still have no idea what my first kit was. Would have been late 66 or early 67 as I was 6 when I built it. Probably a 72nd Revell single engine fighter as I remember a few of them.
  10. While none of my old kits suffered fire or explosives, I did destroy my 72nd armor with a BB gun back in my early teens and graduated to a .22 for several other models later on (only one I remember is a modern carrier (probably Revell or Monogram but not the Big E) that I actually floated just off the Missouri River and sank with my first shot. OK, not sure if I actually hit it or just swamped it with a close in shot but it was gone. Still, I lost more kits to the Movers than to weapons fire. Had a whole box of build ups that didn't show up at one of the new bases (don't remember which move, there were a few). Most of the kits were the Monogram Tom Daniel's cars which I did in the early 70's. Was so happy to see some of them being rereleased recently.
  11. Looks funky with the big gun (anteater). Came out well even with the decal issues. Gotta find one of the 76th scale Nutrockers. But got to modify that turret to at least look like a tank.
  12. Well, these are the pics I took last year. http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/events/National_Convention_2010/vendors+people+places/Pima.Tour/ The pics I took in 04 were up on the old gallery during and after the convention but when I asked if there was a copy when my computer crashed, they had been taken down.
  13. Nice pics Mark. You should link the ones I took at last years Nats which are in that Gallery. I also took pics for the website during the 2004 Convention but lost my copies due to a hard drive crash. Don't know what happened to the ones that were on the site before.
  14. Mark, Here is a link to the Sway thread where all the nominations came from. Don't have links just to the nominees (they were included in the Voting polls). http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,27182.0.html As to your other question, it is JMN which stands for Joyless Modeling Nazi. You can check out the full definition on Whiffpedia. http://whatifmodelers.wikia.com/wiki/JMN
  15. Finished posting the rest of the pics. 219 in the album.
  16. In 2005, a guy my Dad knows, went to Iraq. Tom Humes was a Blackhawk pilot with the Delaware Army National Guard. He started sending pictures and stories to my Dad who, of course, forwarded them on to me. When I started asking questions, Dad put me in touch with Tom. Tom agreed to let me publish his pics on our clubs (now defunct) gallery. These were pretty popular at the time so I finally started putting them up on one of my Picasaa Web sites. Been working on this for 2 days and still have another 20+ emails to go thru. I have added Tom's commentary to some of the pics and my own take on some of the others. He did a pretty good job identifying most of the stuff but I did get to help him with a few. If you are intereted, the location is: https://picasaweb.go...l/OurManInIraq# And here are a few teasers:
  17. This is a little contest I run over on whatifmodeler. This is the 3rd year I have done this. If you have a little time, come take a look. http://www.whatifmod...ic,31761.0.html
  18. This is a little contest I run over at whatifmodelers.com. The awards ceremony is run opposite the Oscars but the final is underway. You can check out the Voting threads (there are 19 of them this year) and look at the past awards shows. http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/board,72.0.html
  19. Yep, Firefly has to be at the top of my list (oh look, it was ). Stupid Fox. I didin't get to see Farscape when it came out but my oldest got the series so I got to see it all. Did enjoy it.
  20. Here are the bottom 10 from IMDB Bottom Rated "Sci-Fi" Titles RankRatingTitleVotes1.1.4Star Quest: The Odyssey (2009)3202.1.5Ultra Warrior (1990)5773.1.5Monster a-Go Go (1965)3,0414.1.5Dark Vengeance (1992)665.1.6Universal Soldiers (2007)7056.1.6Legend of the Roller Blade Seven (1992)2557.1.6Bigfoot (1970)3908.1.6Galaxy of the Dinosaurs (1992)1099.1.6Zaat (1975)2,18010.1.7Evil Behind You (2006)476 One I remember having paid money for was Laserblast. Kid finds a weapon and it turns him into a killer. A recent one which gets high marks from most but just made me wince was District 9. Let's make a film about Apartheid, even film it in South Africa, but we will disguise it as sci-fi. Then we start with a jerky, documentary style camera which at first is ok because that is where the camera is. The cameraman leaves the story early but his jerky camera keeps right on filming, is it floating or what? Finally, we have space ship fuel which turns humans into the aliens. WTF? So, are all the aliens former humans? Sorry guys, this is one I just didn't get.
  21. Some others I forgot. Dr Who - loved the Tom Baker years and several after then have loved the show since it came back a few years ago. Eureka Warehouse 13 Middleman Torchwood Night Stalker Watched lots of those previously mentioned and while I liked them, not necessarily my favs.
  22. I have 3 What if aircraft builds to finish up, two that need some masking for stripes and another I need to procure some small USCG markings (or find someone to print me some). Several other What if projects in the plans and want to finish some 72nd armor and some sci-fi builds. May even work on a car model or one of my Catwoman kits.
  23. I feel like I am catching up. Only 8 times more than I finished. Next year I will see if I can cut that to only 6 times.
  24. Dick, Not sure what you mean. I build aircraft. Ok, and armor, and boats, and sci-fi, and What-if, and humor and the occasional car. See, strictly a select Genre. Well, most of what I do is in 72nd but have been known to stray, on occasion. For 2011 I am hoping to finish several of my What-if aircraft projects. And who know if I get anything odd as a Review kit... Gil, All I have to say to that is hope I never see that commercial.
