  1. Hi Todd! I wouldn't over-think the idea of not being responded to as quickly as you'd hoped for. It could be as simple as that guy's on vacation for 2 wks and whoever is supposed to pick up the slack for him is slacking, or that there's no one to pick that slack while he's away. Often, when we call a "business", we have it pictured in our mind as being larger than it is. You may be thinking "plastics/Dow engineering" while the guy you called is one of 5 folks who stock and run a warehouse that sells plastics. While I read your info, I must confess I don't have a good grasp of what you actually are trying to do why you need to use a resin, and exactly how important (critically/highly/very?) the clarity and/or flexability is to you. In the meantime, there's nothing to keep you from continuing your search elsewhere. Who knows, you may find something before they contact you and then that will be THEIR loss! The only thing I can suggest is for you to search Dental suppliers. They use a lot of various resins, and might also have as much interest in a resin with flexibility and clarity (such as those Invisaclear teeth straightening braces); thus they may have such a product available. You might find plastisol there, or an even better substitute. Let us know if and when you do find success. You never know when someone else will also want to try the same stuff out for a project of their own. Best of luck! GIL
  2. You're obviously a man with some serious skills! I particularly like that P-3, though I'll do mine in god ol' white and gray USN. GIL
  3. Your really "gumming" up the works Rodolfo! Great tip! I'm looking forward to seeing everything come together! GIL
  4. Glad to have ya John! We'll ignore your accent and funny spellings..... Both models look great, but I LOVE that American Canberra! I have an old Falcon vac in 1/48 that I hope to do the same to. Thanks for the great inspiration! Have fun! GIL
  5. Well, my appetite is wet.......That will make a great companion to the F-5E kits out there already. Any idea as to price range in US$? Will you have any test shots (or even an early release) at the IPMS Nats in Omaha next month? Thanks! GIL
  6. Welcome to the party Ed! The great thing about this forum is it's like being a part of a model meeting any day and at any time convenient to you! Have fun, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you want some! GIL
  7. I almost remember the article you're talking about, and the modeler from the great NW who does such awesome NMF work (and scribes the model AFTER applying the NMF!!). However, as I recall, the article may have been in FSM, and not in an IPMS pub. Have y'll checked the FSM archives? Might do that in addition to trying the IPMS angle. Best of luck! GIL
  8. Classy build of a classic plane! I wasn't aware of the Grumman connection. Thanks for the info and congrats on another fine build! GIL
  9. Just shows what some skills can do for an old dog like that! The Hawk 1/48 stuff were pretty good for the mid 60s. I'm sure that one looks just great on your shelf, and gives you a lesser known version for your collection! GIL
  10. Wow....I joined in '77, making me a member for 34yrs. I've managed to make it to 21 of the 34 Nats over the years. That's not bad, considering ALL of my kids were born/raised during that time, I went through a divorce (got poor), remarried (got poor again ), and I had to go through 2 different vacation seniority processions on the job during that time (low seniority making it hard to get off for the Nats during the summer). I've only made it to 4 of the "west" Nats (Phoenix twice, Seattle, and Santa Clara). On the other hand, the only "east" Nats I missed was the '81 shindig in NYC. Perhaps I'm biased as my very FIRST contest/show of ANY kind I ever attended was the Nats in Atlanta in '78. No where to go but down from there...... For any of you who haven't made it to a Nats, you just don't know what you're missing! In fact, it'll take two of them before you actually enjoy yourself. You'll be too over whelmed at the first one to know what to do and where to go, and how NOT to miss out on the things you want to see! I'm sure Omaha is going to be as much fun as ever! GIL
  11. Looks great! No matter if the spring is right or wrong, that's an EXCELLENT tip on how to make such an item! Congrats on a fine build, and thanks for sharing! GIL
  12. Nice wood grain on the dash! Did you decal it (like the real car )), or did you paint the simulated wood decal panels? GIL
  13. You're really a glutton for punishment aren't you? Not only do you build short-run kits, but you build them in 1/72 AND have to rig them too! I look forward to seeing the completed builds! GIL
  14. Just goes to show what can be done on an older kit with a little skill and elbow grease. Thanks for sharing! GIL
  15. Nice BoB Hurricane Mike! "Repeat please"...... "Monkeys could fly better than that"! Gil
  16. ZOMBIE Snow White? I LOVE it! Looks like you and your family share both talent AND tastes in modeling. Nice work all around! GIL
  17. That's some top-notch work! I'm looking forward to more as you make more progress! GIL
  18. Glad to have with us Gary! Enjoy the party! GIL
  19. Dangit .....I was expecting to see one built and posted here...... GIL
  20. Ah-Toledo! The city Ohio tried to give to Michigan-who wouldn't accept it! Glad to have ya here with us. I spent 20yrs in R-4 (Rickenbackers '79-'99) and went to many a show up Toledo way! Please post some pics of your work. Cheers! GIL
  21. Gorgeous! I also like the way you turned the nose wheel for that more dynamic appearance. Congrats! GIL
  22. Great pics, and it's particularly nice to see so many pics of the people, and not just the models. Thanks for sharing! GIL
  23. That's a sharp one Mike! You've shown your talent level by spraying the Alclad directly on the plastic. That takes a fine touch, and I know I'm too heavy handed to do it! Congrats on another inspiring build! GIL
  24. Actually, I almost always buy the CHEAP (4tubes/.99) regular superglue at Walmart. It works fine, it mixes better with baby powder (slower set up time than super-thin "hobby" super-glues), and if half a tube goes bad (which is very seldom), I'm out .15! I also buy the gel type super glue to use on landing gear and other items that need a bit more "bracing". Another good type of thick super-glue is the Gorrilla brand, which supposedly has some rubber mixed in that gives it better shear strength. GIL
