  1. Hi Bruce, Welcome aboard! I don't usually post here but since you live "just across the water" from me I wanted to chime in. I live near Port Angeles. You will find a number of fellow modelers in the area. Hopefully, you made it over to the Vancouver contest on 12 Oct! It's a good show with lots of fellow travelers. Unfortunately, my plans to attend blew up at the last minute so I missed it. Have heard it was a good turnout though. Mark
  2. John, Way Cool!!!! Brings back memories from my teenage years.....I had the Air War (WW II) over Europe in 1/72 hanging from my bedroom ceiling. Something like 30 models :blu-plane: . Mark
  3. Dennis, Now you need to go out and buy about 20 feet of the angle aluminum and make up 10-20 sets of the jig to sell to other treadheads!!!! You could get rich ....or not! Mark
  4. Tom, This past year in Loveland a block of some 24 rooms at the Embassy Suites became available due to late cancellations in the last week leading up to the convention. These rooms were made available but at the regular rate, not the convention rate. If rooms come available at the "last minute", will the hotel honor the convention rate in Hampton? Just asking : ) Mark
  5. I can agree with the Kudo's to the Loveland convention crew. I'd like to give a huge "shout out" to Mark P. and his wife Eileen for their hard work to pull off a great show! Keep in mind Mark was both the convention co-chair and the Head Judge too !!!! Mark
  6. Hey Guys, friendly reminder the 7th annual model show and contest is coming to Fort Worden, Port Townsend, WA on Saturday 15 June, 2013. This has become a fun and enjoyable event over the years. Details can be found at WWW.NOPMS.net. Come join us for the day of friends, fun, models, vendors and history! Mark
  7. Dennis, Your Marder came out great ! Too bad you didn't add an antenna....so Joe could bend it for me ! Mark

    The Basics

Adding to the list: Decals applied tight to the surface, no silvering and no edges showing. Parts that are round remain so after cleanup......gun barrels, wheels, etc. Smooth paint with no pebbling or runs. No "miracle' stowed equipment....add straps and/or rope. Realistic weathering or wear and tear...don't over do it. If you open hatches....have an interior or fill the open space with a figure. I'm sure there is more... Mark
  9. Welcome aboard Mike. I've seen you posting frequently over on Hyperscale. Question?????? Do you or can you still produce the A/C catapult you sold some years ago? Mark
  10. Look around for a business thats closing, going out of business. Many stores will have counter units for displaying merchandise that make for excellent model cases. The shop owner will usually try to sell everything, including the fixtures, before closing the doors forever. I was in a shop just yesterday and bought a display case with sliding glass doors (3' x 3') for $49 cash. The shop had two 6' glass counter units for $65 each. In the current economy, there will likely be a store near you where display cases can be found. Mark
  11. The IPMS North Olympic Peninsula Modelers Society will be having their 7th annual model show and contest On June 9 at Fort Worden, Port Townsend, WA. The site is located in Building 204 at the Fort. This Fort and Building(s) were featured in the film "An Officer and a Gentleman". Come on out and enjoy a day of model fun. Though this is a State park, parking is free for the day! See the attached link for more info. Mark Ford Head Judge http://www.nopms.net/2012-Show-Contest-Information.html
  12. Thanks for sharing. I have wondered how paper models are built. Mark
  13. Welcome! You paper model guys are amazing! When I was a kid in Germany (military brat 1956) a neighbor was building a paper battleship. I'd never seen something like the previously. Cheers, Mark
  14. Dick, There is a resin aftermarket company named Ultracast. They make German, British and US helmets. Set #UCAC 01, is German helmets with liners. I've used these a number of times and look very good painted. There are several vendors who carry the line but I get mine from R&J Products.com. HTH, Mark
  15. Mark, This came out great! FWIW, I've seen your models over the past several years and you get better results with each build. Keep 'em coming! Mark
  16. Mark, I have heard (forget from whom) recently that the owner of AEF , Tony Engelhart, is making some of his products available. I don't know if he is back in full production. As far as wanting to purchase something from him....I would not do so unless I can see it in person first! AEF never had quality control and getting replacement parts was near impossible. My 2 cents, Mark
  17. Mark, Git 'er done! Nice job and the Seattle show is coming! Mark
  18. I just read the Woodland Scenics factory has suffered a serious fire to their production facility. Most of us know of the company as it relates to their model RR line, but many use their products for dioramas, figures, etc. I hope they can rebuild and get back into full production soon. Mark
  19. Mark, This is my favorite Russian A/C by far. You've done a very nice job on it. Subtle weathering works well here! Mark

    Sherman M4A4

James, very good looking Sherman! The paint and weathering came out very well. If I may comment though, the periscopes all look to be closed. How will the driver see where he is going . Cheers, Mark
  21. Excellent!!!!! This has a fresh look and login was easier! Thanks, Mark
  22. This model was at the nats in Omaha this past August. You have to see it in person to truly appreciate the level of detail and quality Bob put into the model. Amazing piece of work!!! Cheers, Mark
  23. Mark, Nice job, buddy. With all the pictures you took, I'm surprised you got to shop at the R&J tables . Mark
  24. You guys are no fun at all !!! Where's the excitement when cutting PE. I use a #10 X-acto blade on a piece of plexiglass. It all leads to the thrill of launching the cut piece of PE and searching for it on your knees for at least 1/2 hour . I just hate when that happens. Just kidding, Mark
  25. Mark, Check out the latest issue of AFV Modeler #59.....something right up your alley. There is a build article of a Sryian Panzer IV. Mark
