  1. Okay. I gotta say it. The 1/48th BUFFs can't make it to target without tanker support. A 1/48th scale KC-135A Stratotanker - water wagon. They can change engines later, gotta have the J-57s first. Preferrably a 1958 model, 58-0067, with 17th BW markings, Wright-Patterson AFB. Hey, if we are going to dream, dream specifically.
  2. Gil QUIT already!!! You're making us look bad out here!! Lookin' good there bud. Keep 'em comin'. Merry Christmas and Happy Modeling All. Mark

  5. A clean work area is a definite sign of a sick mind! Probably said by somebody. Some good looking working areas and all are instructive and inspirational. Our new house is just getting started and I have been mentally building my 'cave' for some time now. I had a pretty nice one in the last house and will strive for that standard. BTW Gil, I have been using a grey, four wheel, surplus, US Govt typist chair for about 37 years now. It has survived a lot of different work shops. This should be it's last move. Happy Modeling Guys Mark
  6. Ken, I have replied to you kind offer by PM - or at least I think I have, and have not heard back from you. No hurry on the part or anything, just wanting to confirm (or deny) your receipt of my email. Email me at myoungcc at gmail.com if you please. Thanks for your kind offer, Mark
  7. Nice work Glenn. Out of the plant (box) and on the ramp. A straight forward build and it is on the shelf. We all need to do that more often and I have been doing just that. The camo is certainly interesting. Keep up the good work.
  8. Another way to achieve the tinted lacquer look is to paint the area with silver and then overcoat it with Future floor wax tinted with food coloring. You can mix whatever shade you want and put it on as heavy or light as you want. It will tend to puddle or gather in the little nooks and crannies and provide some shading and depth. My $0.01 worth. Future and food coloring are as cheap as I am. Happy modeling.
  9. A friend has lost the tail pipe nozzle part (#C-13) from his 1/72nd Dragon Su-24 Flanker D kit, Dragon kit number 2502. I have been trying help him and locate a kit, but have been unable to. OOP, for sure. Other than knowing that the Flanker is a Soviet aircraft with a pointy end (no prop), I know nothing about the variants or the various kits produced. Is the Zvezda 1/72nd Su-24 kit (#ZV7265) the same as the Dragon 2502? Are the parts interchangable? Will the tail pipe nozzles from another variant of the Su-24 fit the Flanker D? I am ready to pay a reasonable price for a Dragon Flanker D kit and failing that, purchase any Flanker kit with a usable part. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you. Thank you very much.
  10. I can say I had a very bad experiance with the black undercoat. I will admit that the bottle was about three years old, but I have never had a problem with paint due to age, other than drying up in the bottle. The paint shook up well and seemed to be viable prior to spraying. The model was sprayed with the black undercoat and it was still tacky after a week or better. I let it dry for about three weeks over all and decided it was time to press on. An attempt to sand out some dust resulted in the paint just balling up and gumming up the sandpaper. The model was stripped using lacquer thinner and the paint did not even wash off, it just crumbled and gummed up. Big mess. I'll never use the Alclad undercoat again. I had hoped that they would be at Nats this year so I could talk to them about that but they did not show. From what I understand, they a getting a bit gun shy about the drying issues. Great paint when it works. Ta Ta and Happy Modeling.
  11. Well guys, I had a whole batch of photos of the parts of the XC-99 stored in front of the USAF Museum restoration ara in the camera this afternoon and ALMOST made it off base before the skycops nabbed me. I was 50 feet from the gate! In the post 9-11 world, photos on base are taboo, as they feel that a bad guy could use a shot of a building to compromise the security around it, or some such thing. Anyway, they made me delete the photos from the camera. Wouldn't take my word that I would do it later either. Since he had the flashing lights and 9mm, I stepped up and pushed the "format" button. And he watched it "format" before he let go of the camera too. Maybe I'll try again some time when it is dark and no one can see me I have a few I took when the first pieces came in. Let's see if I can get it posted and how big will it be. Looks like I need to read up on that a bit. Will try later.
  12. Hi Gang, The vast majority of the XC-99 is now at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, all spread out in front of the restoration area. Maybe I can get out there and take some shots. I have no idea about the restoration schedule or priority, but at best it will be a very long time. As much as I would like to see this bird back in her glory, reality tells me that Memphis Belle and Swoose hold the trump cards, and begrudgingly, rightly so. It's good to see someone else with an interest in the XC-99. I took a lot of shots in '84, but they are all packed away now.
