    Lynx update

I finally bundled all the avionics wiring on the cockpit hood. Some work, but I believe well worth it. When the model is complete, the backside of the hood can be seen. I scratch built some intercom plugs for the crew compartment and installed them. Next, I moved on to the weapons pylons. I added very fine sandpaper to simulate a non-slip surface on the top of each. I used referenced photos from the internet to get an idea of the electrical wiring. I added fabric REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT streamers from Eduard to both weapons stations. I had to mix a custom color of green for the flotation covers on the landing gear bays. The next step is to paint the abrasion strips on the leading edge of each rotor blade. Having a ball!
  2. Fantastic display David. Congrats on a job well done.
  3. Tail rotor is done. Main rotor head is done. Painted all the bolts on both, sealed them, then applied a wash. Installed the rest of the avionics wiring on the back of the cockpit hood. All that left to do is bundle the individuals wires with black thread. I simply tie one knot, clip off the excess, then put a small drop of superglue on the knot to make sure it stays together. Same as before, put a drop of white glue on your fingertip. Pull the thread between two fingers to coat it with glue. Put it aside for about 5 minutes to dry. Glue takes all the fuzziness away, and adds stiffness to the thread. Tires are done. Seats are done. After I bundle the rest of the wiring, I'll attach the instrument panel. Next thing I'll do is paint the main rotor blades. I won't attach them until the very end of the project. After that, I'll start putting rivets on the tail boom, put PE on the inside halves of the main fuselage, then glue it all together. When everything is final sanded, and cleaned, I'll apply the rest of the rivets before I primer. One thing I did forget to mention about the 9th photo. Its a photo of 2 pieces of thread. The top piece is before glue, bottom is after.
  4. Thanks gentlemen. These kits go together great. I’ve got one more Revell Germany kit in my stash. I really look forward to starting it now.
  5. Tried a new idea for seat fabric. The athletic tape worked great. I super glued the edges just to be safe. I decided to add avionics wiring behind the cockpit hood. I use sewing thread. Put a drop of Elmer's glue between two fingers. Pull the thread thru your fingers. When the glue dries, all the fuzz is gone. The glue also adds some stiffness. All the .50 cal needs is a wash with oils ,then its done. To paint the exhaust pipes, I mixed Testors gold, and silver. Decided to paint all the detail on the tail rotor blades, instead of using the kit decals. Took a while, but I'm glad I choose the paint route.
  6. This little gem has been on my build table for some time. Its taken a back seat to other projects. I started this several months ago. For a kit of this size, and detail, the price was amazing. I paid $30.00. I also got a rotor fold kit from Scalewarship Ltd. The one thing that stands out to me is the fit of all the parts. Simply amazing. The clear parts are thin, and crystal clear. Best I've ever seen. Decals look awesome as well. The instructions are a little busy, but very detailed. My ONE and only complaint is the lack of any rivet detail. I have some rivet decals that I MIGHT put on, I'm not sure at this point. I did purchase 3 different sets of Big Ed PE to kick it up a notch. Big Ed even included covers for the directional control petals. I built the base that it will sit on some time ago. I made a stencil for the "H" out of a manila folder. The base consist of 3/4" plywood covered with 100 grit sandpaper. The base was painted with Testors Model Master Enamels. I added oak floor molding to three sides to give it a finished look. The plaques were made by a trophy shop near my home. Took about 3 hours to make the base. I usually build my bases large enough that the model will be protected on all side, if you push it up against a wall. Since the rotors will be in a folded configuration, it won't take up much space in my collection. Thanks for looking.
  7. Amazing work David. Love the engine detail.
  8. Nice build! That’s one massive model. Congrats.
  9. Thanks a lot Bill. Are you going to post pics of your build? Can’t wait to see it.
  10. I found this toy for sale at my local hobby shop, for a very reasonable price. The detail of this helicopter is spot on to the actual aircraft. I tore as much as I could down to fix some of the problems. (correct paint color for the fuselage, corrected the configuration of the main rotor head ( pitch control tubes),and the tail rotor (pitch control rods), and added the correct detail to the cockpit( Fabric for the seats, seat belts, intercom cords for both the pilot, and co-pilot, and corrected the collective lever for the aircraft commander. You could add a ton of detail to this helicopter to produce an great display model. I used Testor US ARMY HELO DRAB FS34031 for the body. I also added anti-collision and navigation lights as well.
  11. Awesome work Gil. Love the paint finish.
  12. Awesome job on a very interesting helicopter.
  13. Love the attention to detail. Awesome presentation!
  14. Great job. Love the paint scheme and weathering.
  15. Thanks Gil. Polishing them with a Novus polishing kit.
  16. Thanks gentlemen. This was a really fun build. As for the glass, I used a Novus polishing kit. I’ll get some additional close-up photos of the gun mounts to you Mark.
  17. After some long hours, she finally done. The only thing that I forgot were seats for the Crew Chief/Gunner. Scratch built one, and stole a seat out of a Blackhawk kit. I went a little heavy on the weathering. Those Marines are a dirty bunch. Decals were a mix of some that I bought, and some out of my leftover decal box. They went on fantastic with some Solvaset. Now all that's left to do is go downstairs, and have a glass of my favorite bourbon by the fireplace.
