  1. Thanks Gil. The pilot with the .38 revolver is from Verlinden. The revolver came with the figure. I thought that it was a little strange myself, since the .45 was the issued side arm at the time. Regards Christopher
  2. I choose to do the base first on this build. I'm going to pose the Mustang in a state of Maintenance. The base itself consist of 3/4" plywood covered with cut squares of 80 grit sandpaper. I attached the squares to the plywood with contact adhesive. I painted the sandpaper with Testor's Model Master enamels. I did a pin wash of black artist oils to simulate oils stains. I finished it off by painting cracks with flat black, and applied pastel dust along the joints in the concrete. I found some grass that comes in like a blanket from Germany. It was applied over sanded grout that was painted dark brown. I did some scratch build. (The saw horses, work bench, and the propeller stand) The barrels, and tool box came from Miniart. The plaques were made at my local trophy shop. The figures were a mix of 1 kit supplied pilot, 2 Verlinden, and 2 Ultracast. I have not completed a lot on the plane itself. Its a great kit with loads of options, and the parts fit great. I purchased the plated metal model. Regards Christopher
  3. The photo etch really kicks it up a notch for sure. Great start.
  4. Looking forward to seeing the completed model Nick. Good idea on the fix. I’ve always wanted to build one of these. Any recommendations on a good kit? Regards Christopher.
  5. Wow! Love the camo job. The subtle weathering make the entire paint job pop. Congrats. Regards Christopher
  6. That is one eye popping color scheme Ron. Great build. How old is the kit?
  7. That is one sweet F-16. Love the airbrush work, and weathering.
  8. Fantastic build David. Love the weathering. Not over done. Congrats!
  9. Thanks for the reply Kevin. I picked some up this week. I have not used them yet. I specifically purchased them to paint some figures for my P-51 diorama. Sounds like they live up to the hype. Glad to hear their easy to work with. Personally, I dread doing figures. I’m still using Testors Model Master enamels About 90% of the time. I’ve got two small shelves in my build closet with around 30 or so colors of Tamiya. Again, thanks for all the helpful info. I’m looking forward to using them. Regards, Christopher.
  10. Sorry to hear about that Kevin. I’ve never used Vallejo paints. Are they really as good as everyone describes them? When I first used the Tamiya clear green through my airbrush, the paint did not look smooth at all when it went on. I was tempted to wipe it off right away, but decided to let it dry. As it dried, the paint eventually smooth out. It’s all I use now. Regards Christopher
  11. Your airbrushing job looks fantastic. Nice crisp line. May I ask what medium you use as a wash? Your landing gear is awesome.
  12. Thank you both Gil and David for your response. Regards Christopher
  13. Thank you Gil. As far as the tinting, I tried to brush it on, at first. I had the exact same problems that you mentioned above. I airbrush it on now. I’ve never tried to dip them before. I’m going to try that out tomorrow night on some scrap pieces. Thanks for the idea. Regards Christopher.
  14. Thanks Kevin. I've failed on more the one occasion with window tinting. That's until I started using Tamiya clear green, and blue. I thin it quite a bit. Airbrush it on the inside of the window. I actually messed up on the first application of the blue (lint in the paint). After it dried, I took a q-tip with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and cleaned it off. Stripped off no problem, and did not harm the plastic. Left no residue either. Thanks Bill for the compliment. I'm glad I took my time on this one. Regards Christopher
  15. Good Afternoon All, I’m getting ready to start Tamiya’s 1/32nd scale P-51D. I know that when the aircraft were at the assembly plant, the wings were puttied and sanded smooth to reduce drag. Can anyone tell me how much of the wing was puttied, and which areas ?Thanks in advance. Regards Christopher
  16. Finally finished. The fit of all the parts on this model were outstanding. Decals were great. Rivets took awhile to put on, but it was well worth it. The entire model was painted Testors Model Master enamels. (Except for the blue cockpit window tint. That was Tamiya Clear Blue.) After I sealed the model with gloss overcoat for the decals, I applied a wash of Lamp Black artist oils thinned with mineral spirits. I let it dry for about an hour. I then took a clean cotton cloth dampened with CLEAN mineral spirits, and wiped off the excess wash. Time to move on to the next one. Regards Christopher
  17. Thanks a lot Mark. If you ever have a chance to use these, (Decal rivets), I'd give it a go. There were a few strips that I forgot to use Solvaset on to melt the film edge. I'm glad that I chose to put them on the model.
  18. Main rotor blade leading edges took sometime to mask off, but their done. On most of the photos that I have seen, the color looks like silver with a touch of gold. I added sandpaper to the gear bays for a non-slip surface. Everything is closed up now. On the main rotor cowling, there are two round windows on the actual aircraft. I'm guessing to check fluid levels. I drilled them out, and added some clear parts from my scrap/leftover box. Forgot to added the rest of the decals to the main rotor head. Had to add nuts, and bolt heads from MENG to the rotor arms as well. The blade holders are done now to. Adding rivets took sometime. They are great to use. One thing you need to make sure before you prime, is that you blend in the edges of the decal film with Solvaset. My first time using Mr. Finishing Surfacer. I sprayed it into a plastic cup to decant it. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, then put it in my airbrush.
  19. Very nice build. I love the ejection seats.
  20. Wow Mark, thanks for your comment. I’ve never been to the Nationals before. I’ve entered models in our clubs annual invitational (Military Modelers Club of Louisville) and I just recently went to the Cincinnati Scale Modelers contest for the first time. I’d love to go to the Nationals. Regards Christopher
