  1. I think I would welcome snow at this point. Am getting tired of the heat, but then I do not mind not shoveling snow or sliding on the ice (born and raised in Philly). Thanks for advice. Will let everyone know how I make out when done with the models. Good luck on the F-16C. Send us some pictures when you get done. Martin Tru-Color Paint email: tru.colorpaint1@yahoo.com
  2. Thanks Eagle & Mark. Looks like I should assemble most of the plane, then do the painting. Never tried silly putty. Will give it a shot. The problem with the Gator Studio masks is that there only 1 set and I'm doing 3 aircraft. Not real smart on my part, but I'm learning as I go. From the pictures I have seen on the camo colors, it appears the "accuracy" of the actual designs is not important then ? I was truly fretting that the camo would look way off from the actual aircraft designs, so that is 1 less concern. Thanks for your advice and help. Now if it would only cool down enough in Phoenix to start painting again (100 degrees this weekend) ! Martin Cohen
  3. I need help on the best way to do the camouflage paint schemes on F-4C Phantoms in the Southeast Asia (SEA) colors. First let me say that I have not built a model for over 50+ years - and yes, I did not stutter, and I doubt any of those models were as complicated to paint as the ones I chose now. The reasons I chose the F-4C was to show off our new U.S. Air Force paint product lines. Maybe this was a bad idea, but I have 3 planes already started and need your help to do the camouflage correctly. Cockpit has been built up, painted and placed in the fuselage. Seams have been filed and filled with putty and sanded. Same with the wings. The underside of the wings and fuselage are a single color, so that is not a problem on the 2 SEA schemes I have planned to do. Wheels, rockets, struts, and other small pieces are already painted as well. It is the upper fuselage and top of wings where the camouflage seems daunting. First question - after painting the undersides of the wings and fuselage, should I assemble the wings onto the fuselage before attempting the camouflage colors or do the camo colors on the separate pieces first, then assemble ? Instructions say to assemble first, but I'm reluctant to do that. Any help here ? Purchased masks from Gator Studios, as suggested on this forum, but that is where I stopped. Second question - since I have 3 aircraft to paint, can I reuse paint masks for all 3 models ? Should I trace the masks on plain paper and copy the design onto multiple pages of our masking paper (which can be printed on) and cut them out to use ? Any help from modelers who have done camouflage schemes on aircraft would be very useful. None of the aircraft that I am building are going to win prizes, I just want to show off our new paint colors on a model. Thank you in advance for any replies to this thread. 4. Andrew: Tru-Color Paint products are solvent based paints that use an acrylic polymer to bind the pigments to the model. Each of the military colors being produced are ready to spray with little to no thinning at a recommended pressure of 28-35 PSI with a medium tip. If thinning is desired, we suggest TCP-015, Thinner, as it is made with the same blend of solvents used in the manufacture of our paint. The colors above (as well as the rest of the Tru-Color Paint product lines) are all available in 1 or 2 oz. bottles. You may order direct or from your favorite hobby shop or online store. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  5. Tru-Color Paint is the first model paint company to release both F-22 paints in a simulated radar dispersion/absorption appearance on Oct. 2, 2017. These are designated as: TCP-1214 F-22 Radar Dispersion # 1 (based on Dark Compass Ghost Gray being the base color) TCP-1215 F-22 Radar Dispersion # 2 (based on Light Compass Ghost Gray being the base color) Both have the "metallic" effect already mixed into the paint which causes the painted surface to "sparkle" when viewed at different angles. Each paint is available in 1 oz. ($ 5.69) and 2 oz. ($ 10.25) size bottles from your favorite hobby shop, online store or direct from us. Similar products will be released for the F-35 in April, 2018 along with the first releases of colors for WWII U.S. aircraft with ANA numbers. If you would like to have more information about out product lines, please do not hesitate to ask for a flyer to be sent by regular mail or email. Looking forward to your comments and suggestions. 7. Tru-Color Paint would like to enlist the help of modelers of WWI and Interwar period aircraft for the correct colors we should develop for this era. In particular we need help with accurate colors for French and German WWI Bi-Planes plus the linen colors for British WWI planes. Note that we already have 2 PC-10 Olive Drab colors and a PC-12 color for British aircraft. Between the wars, we believe planes' colors were made simpler without the need for camouflage colors. Is this a correct assumption ? Regardless of the answer, what colors were planes in this era painted ? Any help modelers can give us would be appreciated. If someone has data we can use for color matching, that would be great. We pride ourselves on making an accurate product and although other manufacturers may have colors in their line that are supposedly correct for this period, there is no guarantee they are right. If we get corroboration by experts in this field that xyz company makes the correct French Dope Yellow, then that is what we will match. If anyone is willing to help us, our color lab will make 2-6 samples of colors to send them to see what is the correct match for the target color we are trying to match in their opinion. If we are close it would help to know which sample is best and a suggestion on what to add to "tweak" the color in the right direction. Anyone care to join us in this venture ? Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint P.O. Box 74524 Phoenix, AZ 85087-4524 714-488-9779 PS - We realize little or no color standards existed in this time period, but if any colors of old match U.S. 595 (A,B or C), British, RAL, ANA or other "modern" standards, let us know that too.
  8. Eric: That is a great idea. Should we have this color - Blue Jeans - as a matte, sprayable color or as a flat, brushable color ? Or both ? I already have an idea on how to make the color, so it should be no problem making 1 or both types. Anyone else like the idea of us adding that color to the product line ? Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  9. Edward: Thank you for your email. Under our automobile product line we have TCP-534 School Bus Yellow. As for the other colors, the names are trademarked, but we do have colors that would match their colors under a different name. Like the delivery company that has brown trucks there is a match under our railroad paint line: TCP-118 Providence & Worcester Brown which is the same brown used on the trucks. I will have the lab research what the other matches are and let you know by the weekend. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  10. Rick: Thank you for the response. We have been getting the RN ships for WWII requested in other forums as well. But then there is requests for IJN and German. We have until mid January, 2018 to set the schedule for the latter 1/2 of 2018 so the more people that respond the more informed our decision will be. Anyone else have an opinion ? Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  11. Gil: Thank you for your reply and support. We think this is a better approach - give the modeler the method to make it his model with color effects he can make. And another point is even it you make a mix that you like, you can change it again using Tru-Color Paint as you can add 2-6 colors and come up with some pretty weird colors ! I know I have just to see what I can create. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  12. A modeler recently asked us to develop different shades of the same color to represent a freshly painted AFV versus a faded or aged vehicle. This is so subjective to so many modelers, it would be nearly impossible to satisfy everyone with the choices we would have. Thus, I will give you a suggestion on how you can accomplish this using Tru-Color Paint. As you will learn upon using Tru-Color Paint it is a solvent based paint. Since the polymer (the resin that binds the pigments used to the model) is the SAME in every formulation of Tru-Color Paint and the solvent ratios used in the manufacture of each color are nearly identical (they vary less than 8% across the board) EVERY Tru-Color Paint color is completely miscible with each other. With this knowledge it is possible to create your own variations in this manner: If you wish to lighten the shade add a few drops of TCP-005 White; If you wish to lighten and alter the hue slightly (to an aged appearance) use TCP-157 Off-White; If you wish to darken the shade add TCP-010 Black; If you wish to darken and change the hue slightly add TCP-009 Grimy Black. To give the paint a faded look add about 8-15% of either TCP-017 Clear Flat or TCP-018 Clear Gloss along with a drop or 2 of TCP-005 White (or more if you want really aged). This reduces the pigment load so that you get a faded, less rich color. Besides our military line,we have about 40 "generic" colors and 3 finishes that can be used to alter the appearance or hue of the paint. These include, White, Off White, Rust, Yellow, Green, Blue, Black, Grimy Black, etc. And we offer both 1 (.45 each) and 2 oz.(.85 each) empty plastic bottles with caps for you to blend and your store your favorite mix. The variations that you can come up with are endless. This method will give your model an unique appearance. If you need help or suggestions for a particular affect you are trying to achieve, contact us via this post or email us for a private conversation. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint P.O. 14. Tru-Color Paint is seeking your input for what new colors should be added for the AFV modeler. Besides the detailing colors like various rusts, muds, dusts, etc. and paints for figures - all of which are in the schedule to be manufactured and released in the balance of 2017 and 2018, we would like to know what should be the focus of new colors for this segment. Should we concentrate on German, British, Israeli or other countries AFV's from WWII to present ? If so, what countries should we look at first to get information on ? Is one era more important than another ? Your input is of great value to us. What other manufacturer in the hobby industry asks for your help ? We are working on the schedule for the latter half of 2018 and into 2019 (we plan ahead !). Depending on what we hear from the end user on this and in other forums, we will make our decisions by early 2018 on what is the focus of new colors for the AFV modeler. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to respond to this thread. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint P.O. Box 74524 Phoenix, AZ 85087-4524 714-488-9779 email: tru.colorpaint1@yahoo.com
  15. Tru-Color Paint is seeking the input of the warship modeling community on what we should be developing for the market. Right now Tru-Color Paint is in development of nearly every color the U.S. Navy used in WWII, including the generic colors used on pre-war and on modern warships. We will have about 60 colors in this category by the time we are through with all the color matches and releases of these through early 2019. What country's naval ships should be the next focus of Tru-Color Paint ? We have the color chips for German, Japanese and Royal Navy for WWII and can get the modern colors for these as well. We believe the modeler should have a say as to what we do next or should we do these concurrently with the U.S. Naval colors ? We look forward to your input and suggestions. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint

  19. Andy at Andy's Hobby Headquarters on 59th Ave. (and Greenway) in Glendale, AZ is painting the USS Ranger aircraft carrier using Tru-Color Paint and the masking (frisket) paper we produce. We had dropped off a few colors last weekend to Andy for him to evaluate and showed us that he was going to do the USS Ranger as his next build for YouTube. Since we had already produced the correct camouflage colors for the year and ship type we asked if we could supply all the paint for this project and he agreed to do the build with our paint. Andy had already painted the bottom of the hull with our TCP-1000 Norfolk 65-A Anti-fouling Red when we got there today and he stated he had no problems. The model looked very nice. Here is the line up of what we delivered today, 9/9/17: TCP-1006 5-O Ocean Gray, Late 1941-45; TCP-1012 5-P Pale Gray, 1943-45; TCP-1007 Navy Blue; TCP-1003 5-H Haze Gray; TCP-1010 Navy Blue 20-B 1942-45 and TCP-1014 Polished Bronze. The first 4 colors listed are for the hull and the vertical sections of the superstructure, the Navy Blue 20-B is the flight deck and all horizontal surfaces on the superstructure, and the polished bronze is for the propellers. We also gave Andy sheets of our masking (or frisket) paper for the camouflage. This paper can be fed through a printer and if a person can make a template, then you can cut out the camouflage pattern as needed. We will be informed when the YouTube presentation is ready, and we will pass that info to you on this forum. If ANY other hobby shop would like to put on a demo at their facility using our paint and masking paper, we will supply the necessary colors, paper, thinner and clean up solvent at no cost to the hobby shop. Please ask for this material through our email address stating the hobby shop name, owner's or manager's name, shop address and a phone number. Since we make paint colors for all the major modeling genres we would like to know what would be of most interest for the shop to demo - figures, ships, aircraft (military or commercial), armor, railroading or automobiles/trucks. If the shop can supply a date and time, we will show that on our website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint P.O. Box 74524 Phoenix, AZ 85087-4524 714-488-9779 email: tru.colorpaint1@yahoo.com
  20. Very nice job. Very realistic. Martin

  22. Mike: I really appreciate the info. Looked them up and they have the mask I need in 1/48 scale. Thanks for your help. Martin Cohen
  23. Does anyone know where or from whom I can get paint masks for the camouflage schemes on SEA era F-4C jets ? I have done searches on the internet without any luck. I am putting together 3 F-4C jets to show off our new paint and wanted to do them in several paint schemes. The models I am working on are Tamiya 1/48 scale. Furball decals does not have them in stock. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as this is the first models I am building in over 45 years ! They are not going to win any awards. Martin Cohen, PhD Tru-Color Paint
  24. Tru-Color Paint is willing to donate paint samples and pieces of models (cars, planes, ships, railroad, etc.) to any IPMS chapter that is willing to put on a demonstration of our paint at one of your meetings, at a show or any gathering of modelers where there might be interest. Just have a chapter president or secretary contact us. Tell us what you would propose to have a clinic showing how easy it is to use our paint and clean up. Let us know a date, contact name and address (phone # too would be nice) to send the materials to and about how many you believe would attend. If we have ample notification, we may be able to show the clinic date, time and where it is to be held on our website. If there is a preference on what you would like to receive for the demo, let us know. We will try to accommodate the request as there are a limited number of plastic parts to send as pieces to paint. Besides the paint and plastic parts we will send some thinner plus acetone for clean up. Looking forward to hearing from the chapters. IPMS Members - tell your chapter about this offer ! Martin Cohen, PhD (member of Craig Hewitt Chapter) Tru-Color Paint P.O. Box 74524 Phoenix, AZ 85087-4524 714-488-9779 email: tru.colorpaint1@yahoo.com
  25. A agree with Gil and James (hmmm - I sound like a politician). Clean up with acetone - it is a relatively "cheap" solvent that works very well to clean air brush and paint brushes. And it dries fast so you can paint again within seconds, but please use our thinning if needed. At the most only a few drops will be required to achieve the best performance with any type air brush. Spread the word at your local IPMS meetings - first batch of military colors shipping this week ! Martin Cohen Tru-Color Paint
