When Joe Koenig built his Merkava, he used micro-balloons for the non-skid surfaces. It's coarse enough and looks to scale. I believe he used white glue to hold it to the tank.

For my personal taste, I prefer to see the most recent post. I read every post here on a daily basis and prefer to read the most recent at the top instead of having to dig through posts to find the end of a thread. Now, if I wasn't reading the threads on a daily basis (like I do with AMPS) I would prefer the chronological sort with oldest first. That allows me to track the entire conversation. I guess that means I like both ways. Shutting up now. d

Brad, I've searched high and low and can find no such control to allow you to display the most recent posts first...I would like this also! It appears this flavor of the forum software doesn't allow this kind of sorting. Fingers crossed that the next upgrade will offer this feature. Cheers, Dennis

Here's what I've got working on my bench.... A Tamiya 1:48 Sherman Firefly. I'm adding brass details to the basic kit. and a 1:72 Sd.Kfz. 251/2 Ausf.D mit Wurfrahmen 40 rocket launchers. A nice kit with lots of detail. Is taking a long time and mucho patience to get this one headed toward the primer!

I used to frequent Denbigh Dan's quite frequently when I moved down here in the early '80s. I find my deals elsewhere now.

I'll definitely check out the Kangero book, Les. I just bought the one for the FW-190 (vol.II) and love it! I just finished cutting the side skirts this weekend. I cut them out of a sheet of printer's aluminum and they're looking good. Gotta finish the Sherman Firefly first, so there's time to acquire another Pz IV reference book. Thanks! dt

That's the "warning bar." It displays the cumulative state of warnings received from the forum administrator or the moderators of the individual forums. Visible only to you and the moderation staff, it's a way to gauge when you've strayed from the acceptable use policy (AUP). Get too many warnings and you face a variety of disciplinary measures up to and including suspension. Keep your comments civil and tasteful and you should be fine.

Good lord, that kit must be at least 35 years old!

Steve asked me to merge his thread detailing his Colonial Viper build with this Group Build topic. Unfortunately, the two merged according to time/date posted, leaving this group build's description a bit confusing. In the interest of sanity, I'm reposting the original Group Build notice here: Rules, Guidelines and Information. The group-build period starts on September 1, 2010 and will finish on March 1, 2011. This GB will be a tribute to Battlestar Galactica, the original series as well as the re-imagined series. The GB guidelines will be simple. 1. Anything that represents a legitamate Battlestar Galactica spacecraft is eligible for the group build. The build is open to any scale. 2. The model can be in any state of completion. Resurrect an old project if you have one. 3. Scratch-building is allowed, as is any after market components. Also, cannibalizing and kit bashing is allowed to get a correct result. 4. This build is not limited to aircraft. Concept vehicles are allowed. Also, drawing board concepts are allowed. 5. Prizes?? But most of all: Build a kit and have fun!

Thanks for catching me up, Don. Down here in Virginia, my absolute favorite hobby shop USED TO BE Granddad's Hobby in Fairfax. Granted, I live another 180 miles to the south, but when my son started to college at GMU, I found this little gem tucked beside the beltway and gave them about $400 of my hobby money over a period of two years. Sadly, a couple years ago, they went out of business and, rumor has it, packed up and moved to West Virginia to start a mail order business. Still no word. I miss their knowledgeable sales staff and large selection of paint, magazines and photo-etch for armor!

Ah, yes, I knew AB Charles when they were located in their old Dormont store (it's been over 30 years since I've been there and can't say I remember them being located in a barn). Every year or so, I'd make a special trip up from Morgantown to spend the afternoon there. They know how to run a hobby store....I take it they've moved as the photo on their website isn't the same store I remember....
