  4. All, Just wondering about Dreamsof51's comment above: He mentions the ""Northrop Alpha"" I assume that he's talking about the Gar Wood Industries aircraft (?). I don't have a huge amount of material here on these early aircraft, but what makes the Alpha different than the Gamma? Was the Alpha a passenger aircraft (& how do you tell them apart)?   6. I checked the stash, and I must have parted with my extra kit (I have one that's still in-progress) Unless I missed something over the past few years, I don't think it's too hard to find - you should be able to dig one up pretty easily.
  7. Thanks Guys, I have one of his early log books, which is why I started looking through the albums for some help in trying to find photos of his aircraft. Most of his early flights seem to have been in a Taylor Cub, and he later bought his own aircraft - a Piper Cub. I never knew the man, as he died many many years before my time. I got the sense from looking at these that you could indeed get in the plane, fly to where you wanted to go, have lunch, then fly back home. I may have some more, but I will have to get through the rest of the albums to make sure.

  10. Hello all, Below are some photos that I have here. The short story is that my Grandmothers' Sister's Husband was a professional photographer and pilot. He was working for one of the local newspapers when he was killed in a crash while in the first aircraft shown - a Piper Cub. What follow are some vintage photos that you don't see too often. I posted a link to them in another posting, but had some time today & wanted to get them out for everyone to see & enjoy. Cheers! Tim

  14. Hello Again! As James stated above, the first shot was a Piper Cub J-3. Below are some photos of the aircraft I was thinking of for the first post. I am unsure if my great Uncle actually owned this one, or just learned to fly on the aircraft. Most of the early pilot log entries are for the Taylor Cub NC15335 (which I think is an E-2)?   16. James, I spent some time today looking through the old albums again, and it appears he had two aircraft. I think the earlier one may have been a Taylor Cub, and the later one (shown above) in which he was killed was indeed a Piper. It's going to take me a while to sort through things and make sense of what I am looking at, but I'll update here when I get it figured out. Thanks again for the help! Tim

  18. All, Please remind me how to do a scale conversion. I can't remember... I have a PE part in 1/350 that I want to reproduce in 1/48. What is the % I need to use on the copier? I'm not sure how it will work out, but it will give me a starting point to scratchbuild the part I need. Thanks! Tim
  19. Thanks James!! No worries here about my bubble! :D The reason I typed Taylor Cub, was that I have one of his early pilot log books. Inside the front cover it reads "The Taylor "CUB".... America's Safe Plane" Of course, the log book could have been picked up anywhere. I have the original bill of sale for the aircraft around here somewhere. I'll see if I can dig that out and check for sure. It's somewhere in a huge pile of family items that my parents got with my Aunt's passing a few years ago, so it may take me a while. I've looked through the log book again and there are listings for both a Taylor Cub and Piper Cub with the NC 20887 (which is the airframe above). I'll let you know if I can put my hands on any more info! Thanks for the model tips. I will have to check those out. I figured I was going to have to do some kit bashing or scratch building to make this happen.

I did get John's note today and I am looking for more info on the Chevy 1 1/2 Ton 4x4 truck K43 Anyone know if there is a kit out there which is close that I can use to start the conversion? I'm in the process now of doing my Google and other internet searches... Thanks again for your reply!! Tim

  23. Thanks Mike, I figured it was a lighter duty truck, but wasn't sure exactly where to start looking. I have a few kits here that have the nose that looks "close" but I don't want to start in the wrong direction! Take care, Tim
  24. Hello All, Below are two photos of my Great Uncle during WWII. He worked with the Signal Corp in Europe. I'm trying to find out a little more info on the trucks shown - what are they? (make/model). They are telephone line trucks used by his unit. I am fairly certain I will end up going a fair amount of scratch building, but is there a kit of the basic chassis?? Does anyone know of a conversion? Thanks for your time! Tim
