  1. Some of my entries are lighted and require electricity. Will there be power hookups available?
  2. As the title says this is the 1000 scale Akira by Starcrafts. Wow! It is an amazing kit. I really wish that Round 2 had followed through with their planned kit. But Starcrafts has done a great job with this kit! The price is a bit high, but there is a lot of resin and it is very well cast. Starcrafts also offers color cast resin parts and aztek decals for the model. I did not use either. I was worried about the resin sponsons would sag so I reenforced them with brass rod. Since I was unable to get clear views of the blinkers on he ship I just used a simple 4060 chip set up to blink the position lights. I drilled out the windows I wanted light to shine through. The "hardest" part of the build was cutting the trench in the pylons so I could light the warp nacelles. The decals that came with the kit are nice. My only complaint was that there was no name decal included. When I asked Starcrafts about this I was told there was no name on the studio model. They are right there is no name on the studio model. But I wanted one for continunity. I asked JT Graphics to print me 1000 scale registry and name. I went with the all black name decal to match the rest of the ships from First Contact or "The class of 96". There are around 25 LEDs in the model. The model was painted with Model Master enamels. The base color is Light Grey. The armor panels were painted Dark Ghost Grey and then over sprayed with Light Grey. I also used Navy Agressor Grey as a detail color. A lot of the detail was added with decals. The unlit windows were "painted" with a pencil. The stand is my usual wooden plaque with batteries underneath and dedication plaque on top. The quote is from HG Wells who wrote War of the Worlds. The HMS Thunder Child protected a refugee fleet from Martian tripods in the story. I began this build in September so it took around 6 months for me to complete. My goal when i began was to do this ship and model justice and I think I have.
  3. I began this model at the beginning of June 2011. Since then I have been slogging away at the model. The model is mostly out of the box. I did replace the kits clear parts with resin aftermarket parts from DLM for the Navigational Deflector and Bussard Collectors and Warp Field Grilles. The model was painted with Model Master Enamels. Light Gray, Intermediate Blue and Light Ghost Gray. The decals are from JT graphics and the detail decals are from DLM. The model was given a wash with Payne's Gray and I flattened the model with flattened Future. I used DLM's Federation flasher board for the navigational flashers and strobes. I really like the effect. Over all I'm very happy with the model. It vertainly took enough time! The model won a Silver award at WonderFest in May. Comments are welcome. I also have a short video of the model to show the blinking lights http://smg.photobuck...nt=MVI_0244.mp4
  4. Thanks everyone! This model will be at Nats this year so if you are attending check it out in person
  5. The lighting system was a chip I bought from a member of the starship modeler forums. The chip was designed to fit in the head and was pretty easy to install
  6. Okay I finished work onthis model last week. I like how it looks. I took some better photos with my camera. As I said before I used Alclad II and Humbrol paints also some Tamiya clear Red. I sanded off the raised Cylon Symbols and used decals from SSM. I also added more detailed engine parts from Acreation. The stand is from JT Graphics. Comments welcome. This is a video of the model http://smg.photobuck...nt=MVI_0588.mp4
  7. I can second this. i have been buying models from Federation Models for years! Great Customer service!
  8. Well? Who attended and what did those who attended think? All I heard at the show was positive.
