  1. Thanks for checking it out and the encouraging comments!

Mark, it did not come with any figures, which is a shame because ICM has produced some nice ones recently. I bet there are some good ones for Red Army artillery out there. I will likely add a figure to the base shortly.

David, this is really a staightforward build. I actually took it on the road and did my parts cleanup there. I do recommend the WWP monograph "WW2 Soviet Anti-Tank Artillery". It helps clarify the instructions a bit.

  2. Yes, I was amazed (I don't know why I should be) at the amount of griping at a famous armor site about the kit already...and us tank guys wonder why manufacturers are a bit timid about offering us new kits.

    Have a good build, Jack!

  3. Jesse,

It can be very easily done, the Skysweeper was started in 1992, the M8 in 1995. AMS or too much or too little reference can be the cause. You find yourself scatchbuilding the ash tray from the drivers cab and suddenly you decide to move on. For myself the urge to go back will return, anything can trigger it, an article, book or picture, even a conversation. It always has so far. Often too when you return your skills have moved on, new references or AM products appear and solve old problems or a new light comes on over your head. Now that can be fun.

However I can only work on one project at a time, working on two, thats is two in parallel ,is something I have never ever been able to do. Those who can do so impress me greatly.

    regards

    Paddy, love the Terry-Thomas avatar!

  4. Please understand, I'm not trying to be critical, but how can someone start a model and not finish it after 10+ years. I generally only work on two models at a time. One model is in the finishing/painting/waiting stage; the other is in the construction stage. I couldn't image having a model sitting around for years waiting to get finished. Then again, I'm the type of person that once I start reading a book, I have to finish it...

    Attention Deficit Disorder...it's a gift! :smiley13:

  5. the 1/35th Tamiya M-113 ACAV, but that's been in work since the Atlanta Nationals!!

    I hope you mean 2005 and not 1993! :smiley20:

Funny thing is I think I have one or two in progress from before '93! :smiley18:

I too have a Tamiya M113 in progress, albeit the A3. Add to that Trumpeter's M1126 Stryker, Tamiya's Stug IIIG, an Italeri M4A1 Sherman, and Trumpeter M1A1 Abrams (those last two definitely meet the "Pre-'05" criteria!)

Somewhere tucked away, I have an M577A2 and M48A5, both Tamiya (with the Lo Model A5 conversion for the Patton), painted but needing a re-do...someday! :smiley19:

  6. All,

Got the new 72nd kit and it looks pretty good (have to wait for the Review).

Planning on putting it in the sand color used in Iraq and wondered if the cab interiors were also repainted or left in the dark green color?

Also, does anyone do aftermarket tires for this kit yet as that is one area the kit is lacking in?

    All help greatly appreciated.

Unless you have a specific vehicle that you have info on, the general rule of thumb is that if the vehicle came from the unit and was deployed with the unit, the exterior of the vehicle was repainted while the interior was not. If the vehicle was serviced in a depot before deployment, then the interior was repainted at the same time.

  7. Okay, I have found a site with some photos of the Saumur Panzerkampfwagen IA.

    PzKpfw IA

Judging by the photos, and having built the Tristar kit, I would venture to guess it is some ventilation for the gearbox or the brake mechanism. Later Panzers had protrusions over the brake access hatches for ventilation.

  8. Here's a Technical I converted from a Trumpeter BJ-1212 Jeep. It is set in the fictional land of Zangaro, West Africa (from The Dogs of War by Frederick Forsythe). I have recently done some business travels to West Africa and was inspired to create this.

The Dushka is a MiG Productions kit. I rigged the tailgate and back end from sheet plastic and brass.

My base has some work left, but it's an idea...

  9. Uhhh, did I miss something? Walmart hasn't had models for a couple of years, at least around my way. Actually, that gave me the last reason I needed to never darken their doors.

Yes, refer to the last Journal letters section.
