Since the Marietta show is off for this year, looks like we'll enjoy a trip to Central GA...always a good time

Looking sharp, Mark!

Rodolfo,
You should make this into a book; How to Superdetail the PzKpfw IV H!
At least an IPMS journal article (dare I say "Special Edition?)

Chris, Is this a sculpt or a kit? Really nice!

Thanks for the update Rob. Do they plan on continuing the July 4th living history event?
I am glad (and privelged) to have gone to Armor School in the late 80s, when so much armor was there, both historical and "present-day". I have mixed emotions with the Armor School relocation. Ft. Knox is a great post and the community was excellent, but since I live 2 hours north of Ft. Benning, I am going to be visiting the new museum alot.

I recently was given an Iwata airbrush from a modeling friend, he also gave me an old compressor that works, but is quite loud. I don't believe the wife will like that at all. I was wondering if an air tank is a good option. My dad has a compressor that I could use at any time to fill it up and a tank is quite a lot cheaper than a compressor. Does anyone use this option? How long does a 5 gallon tank last? Thanks in advance.
Brian
The air tank option is great for quiet operation, especially when properly filled with inert gas. No noise, no moisture.
That said, I would advise against self filling the air tank as moisture could make it inside and cause corrosion as well as annoying moisture plugs in the air line. Over the long run you risk serious danger as improperly filling a deteriorated air tank could cause a tank eruption. If large enough with the right amount of pressure, shrapnel could result. Play it safe and have the tank checked out and filled professionally.

Let's hear it from some of the small scale modelers out there. The big stuff is nice, but the small ones just look so cool.
I'll start. Here's a Dragon Sherman I did a few years back.
Outstanding Sherman, Ron!

OK I don't have much and they're not brilliant, but here you go...

Mark,
Depending on things like upgrade sets, tracks, etc., the kits can run about the same. I have both the Tamiya H and J, and the Dragon H late smart kit. I do think the Dragon detail is finer, and should not be a prickly build as some of their earlier Mark 4s. I would not turn my nose up at the Tamiya kits, but you'll likely want to replace the tracks. The Dragon Smart kit has the Magic Tracks, so you shouldn't need to replace them.
Good luck, can't wait to see the build!

Gray. I don't recall seeing white under the tiedown locations on the current carriers.

Related to Kendall's recommendation, I use Durham's Water Putty. The only difference is with the Durham's you add water to activate it, but tinting, painting and texturing are identical.
For desert sand, I will add a good amount of the appropriate colored acrylic paint to the paste (water applied 1:3 ratio with powder), apply with a trowel and texture with stiff brushes. When dry, I tint with an artist's oil wash and dry brush with light acrylics.

Very nice, Duke!

My Tasca M4A1 Mid Production Sherman. It will leapfrog a huge production line of half-buillt kits, but it is the one I need to build.

DragonUSA just sent me this:
Greetings!
Dragon Models USA is please to announce that it has been appointed the exclusive distributor for Bronco Models for the United States of America. Bronco Models is a manufacturer based in China that specializes in high quality military subject plastic model kits. Their Armor, Aircraft, Ship and Accessories kits encompass a variety of interesting and unique subjects in a selection of popular scales.
Both of these kits are on the list with a retail that'll be somewhere in the $50 range, so buy it from a local hobby shop owner while you still have a local hobby shop! Otherwise, you'll have to get your paint and glue from eBay, too, and wait to finish the model... perhaps even missing the show you wanted to take it to.
James,
WHen I am ready for these, I'll gladly get you to order one for me!

Of course this will happen, now that I have started on my Tamiya kit with the Tank Workshop add-on!
You're welcome!
-
Chris, very impressive. I'm telling ya, come to the "dark side"!
-
Great build! My only suggestion is to either get rid of the Army markings or replace the USMC smoke grenade launchers with US Army ones. And consider abandoning ships and switching to armor full-time!
-
No, and it was a repeat, too!
It was so good I watched it again.
Considering that it was the subject of my March newsletter Editorial...
-
Mike, how did she do? Was at the show Thursday and loved Derby.
-
Mark, you are SOL with that upper hull. Everyone I know who has that kit has the same issue. There may be missing periscope covers as well. You may have to scratch the missing details. Wish I could be of real help.
-
Duke, I agree with you for when I was doing 1/72 stuff.
-
After struggling through a Miniart Vacform/Injection kit, I really prefer ceramic stuff too.

Nice Ron, raising the bar again!
