  1. Hi guys,

First of all, I'm very glad that the Forum is back up. Well done Uncle Bob.

Now for my question. I'm working on the 1/48th Tamiya F4U-1d for a museum in NC and it's almost finished. I'm going to attach it to the great Nautilus Models real wooden deck sections. Any ideas on how I can attach the model to the painted wooden base and secure it properly? I think that superglue won't hold it. I was thinking about drilling holes in the base and using very thin wire to secure it to the base, but that might look dorked up for a permanent display.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I pin mine. I drill a small hole in the base and the wheel. I insert very small brass rod using 5 minute epxoy to attach. Works great.

  2. Clare, I've never used it. However, I have read from others that it takes upwards of 3 days to cure, sometimes more.

I either use Testors Gloss Black enamel, or simply coat the bare plastic with Future then apply the chrome. Of course, that alters tonal quality....but you know I haven't the patience to wait 3 days for ANYTHING to dry, LOL!

I've done the same thing with Future. I really like the way it looks over a Future base.

  3. I've got several on the bench. Most are awaiting time in the paint shop.

    Trumpeter P-40B 72nd

    Hasegawa MXY-7 72nd

    Tamiya Jeep 35th (Don't ask)

    Condor MiG-25 72nd

and a few more that have been started and are on hold for one reason or another.

  4. Invision markets a product called IP.Blog which bundles with this Discussion Board. I do not know what it's performance history is, or how widely used it might be.

I'm not particularly keen on adding it, since we already have a "Reviews" section on this domain which eats up a lot of our storage space - especially since such an application would be subject to whatever volume of text and images any member might care to upload. Which brings up another issue - security. I'm VERY reluctant to allow general uploads to the site, for obvious reasons. (I had to think long and hard about allowing even personal photos and avatars).

If I did recommend it, I would insist it be done via a new, separate IPMS/USA Domain, which would substantially increase the annual cost of maintenance.

However, if there should be substantial interest expressed by the Membership, I would be willing to recommend it (subject to Executive approval for the annual expenditure), install it, and maintain it.

You guys really want to work me to death, don't you?

    :smiley2:

It would be nice, but don't work yourself to death Bob. We need you. :smiley20:

  5. Looking for two articles from FSM on building the AP-2H. These articles were in Feb 87 and Sep-Oct 85. If anyone has other info please let me know.

    TX

I have those issues. PM me.

  6. It's a Stearman-Hammond Y.1S (aka Y.150S,) one of 14 built, including two which went to the US Navy. PH-APY was ferried, by ship, to Holland, arriving 24-9-37. It was sold to the RAF 30-5-39, and scrapped in February, 1942. No, I'm not a smart-a___ know-all; I Googled the registration letters.

    Edgar

Wonder what the RAF wanted it for?
