  1. That "horseshoe" is the rain removal system nozzles. It blows hot air across the windscreen. I used to work F-5s at Nellis back in 79-81.
  2. I've heard that they are "local" mixes. According to my Authentic Decals #72-33 F-5N/F Tiger II VFC-111 Sundowners, it might be FS35237 dark blue grey, FS35466 light blue, and FS36081 gunship grey. I would go with Light Ghost Grey, the dark glue grey and light blue.
  3. Dick, When the engines are off, they can sit in either position, up or down, mostly up. When the engines are first being started, they raise up in order to get max airflow down the tubes. After it's up and running on it's own, they drop down. It's cool as you can hear the JFS (jet fuel starter) kick off and the intake drops down, that way the crew chiefs know when it's safe to get under the aircraft to pull pins, etc. Hop this helps Timmy
  4. I need the Orlando Vendoer POC to please PM me. Thanks, Tim Darrah
  5. I don't have any photos, but being a retired USAF crew chief, I've spent many an day/month in these things. There was no standard for how the trucks were layed out, but normally there was a large metal trash can behind the driver's seat. It was normally secured with bungee cord to prevent it from flying around the truck. It was "the favored sitting spot", so make sure that you dent in the lid bigtime. Also add a FOD can behind the passenger seat, secured the same way. There were bench seats on each side of the truck, normally "dexion" (L-brackets with lots of holes drilled in it) was used to make the frame and the seat was plywood covered with padded vynal. The inside of the trucks were painted a dull silver. Up front with the driver/passenger seats, you'd have a FM radio set, not the type you listen to music on, that would be mounted up high near the sun-shade. Remember to add a clip-board with a bunch ofpaperwork, and Tech Data books to the top of the dash board. Depends on what the truck was used for, if it was for the Flightline Expeditor, he'd have a plexiglass board mounted on a plywood frame that carried the aircraft stats on it. If it was the line truck for weapons or "pointy-heads" (specialists), then there would be no big board. Remember to add tool boxes under the seats. Hope this helps.
  6. 2 boxes from the IPMS/Gamecocks in Sumter/Shaw AFB, SC, with assistance from the AMPS-Central South Carolina Wildcats, were sent today. 1 box had a few kits, a few magazines, 3 tubes of glue and 6 paint brushes. The other box was full of Journals and model mags.
  7. Gil, go to the Upcoming Events page, then to the "download the submission guidelines" and you'll find it there bud. Timmy
  8. Never mind, just found one in the Hasegawa Mirage F.1C :D .
  9. Might anyone know if there is a kit that has the Matra R.530E air-to-air missile in it in 1/72nd? I have the Hasegawa weapons set, but they are just US weapons, I also have the Airfix RAF/NATO set (kit #05041), the Heller Armement F/US/OTAN (kit # 80510) and the Italeri/Testors US/NATO Aircraft WEapons swet (kit # 860) and none of them have it. I can probably convert a misile already on hand, but would rather have a kit. Yes, I'm lazy. Thanks, Tim
  10. Hey 'Becca, It more than likely is the external colour overall, then the outside belly would be painted with the undercoat, which on my truck was a rough flat black, but has changed to black with extra dark sea grey ighlights. The inside would be bare paint then the carpet pad/insulation and then the actual carpet. Go to a Chevy dealership & ask to crawl under one. Ready for the Rose & Crown on the Nats Friday night? Timmy
  11. Dick, You could put a couple J-79s on a tank!! B)
  12. After watching the news for the past few days/weeks, I was wondering how the 2013 Nationals convention site in Ft. Collins, CO is doing? Is it near the fires or is it "safe"? Just wondering. Tim
  13. What Gil says is correct about just some of the metal portion of the lower stabs having "soot" on them. Some guys would sand the soot off, but was way too time consuming for the couple of days you'd have semi-clean heat shields. When I crewed RF-4Cs in 85/86, we were just then getting the smokeless engines, and it was done by attrition. Doing a double engine change on a Rhino is not fun, beleive me. Mine flew for around three months with one smoker and the other smokeless.
  14. I'm hoping to. Trying to convine Linda to go as well, but you know how that goes
  15. Eric, Thanks. They look to be "OK" kits, similar to AMT/ERTL (?) but do-able. I can't wait to get mine.
  16. Has anyone had any experience with Simil R kits? In the latest Hannant's newsletter, they list a 1/24th Pescarolo/Judd 01 LMP1 car from Le Mans in 2010, I'm very interested in this but it's $80!! Simil R also has a Ford GT from Le Manms and a Ford Focus WRC kit. I've done a search on the company but found nothing. Thanks, Tim
  17. Well done (as usual for you), now just gotta see it in person. Are you coming up on July14th for the AMPS contest in Lexington?
  18. Patrick, I agree, at least they tell you what you need to complete the conversion. On Missing-Lynx, I think it was, I saw a post and this guy spent a lot more than I did on more stowage. I can't wait to get going on this thing, next month aftyer everything, the resin & the kit arrive. I saw these things for real a few years ago & was very interested in them but wasn't allowed to talk with "the passengers", plus I didn't have my camera with me at work.
  19. Dannie, Thanks I'll definately look for the book. Patrick, Thanks for the link. I did see on their webb site what was and what wasn't inlcuded in the conversion. I do agree that it sucks that you have to buy a bunch more sets in order to have a complete model; but I just paid for the items. Tim
  20. Thanks bud, found two more good ones.
  21. Hi guys, I saw in the April 2012 issue of Model Military International that www.proartmodels.be has a Warpig conversion out based on the Trumpeter LMTV kit so I have one on order I hope (they haven't responded to my e-mailed order). Anyways, might anyone know where I might find photos of the Warpig? I've "Binged" it and found one, checked WarWheels.net, but didn't see anything. I know that these are "shy" vehicles, but there must be some photos/info out there somewhere. Might you know where? Thanks, Timmy
  22. Might anyone out there have a good drawing of how the P-26A Peashooter was rigged? Thanks, Tim
  23. Well, I'm stoopid, it should be P-12E, not a P-6. I'm still learning these early aircraft. I have found a 79th FS and have the markings, just need the Matchbox kit now.
