  1. I have the Tamiya 1/16 scale German Luftwaffe ace pilot figure. They show Tamiya's XF-18 blue grey for the uniforms. Is there a comparable color in Testors or Humbrol? I'm an enamel person. Also, what about the life vest color? It shows a yellow, probably a light yellow. Thanks all.
  2. I found some back issues of Sky Model Magazine in English from a hobby shop. These were absolutely great, so I bought a few more (in English) from Ebay. I then found a subscription on Amazon and promptly paid for a subscription. You guessed it, the magazine I got was in Italian! I've been looking on the Internet to see if subscriptions are available for the magazine in English, but to no avail. Something tells me the English version has been discontinued. Any assistance? Thanks! Joe Vattilana :blu-plane:
  3. I thought Scalemaster might have something too , but I did something basic: I googled USAF fonts. There's a website (presto.tripod.com?) that has USAF fonts to download. I haven't done it yet, but if it's like a WORD type feature where you can use colors, I'm in business. Thanks guys! Joe Vattilana
  4. ok thanks. I thought I saw something some years back. Joe V.
  5. I have two projects that will have night schemes for a 1/48 scale HU-16, and a 1/72 scale twin engine bomber used in the Korean War. I am looking for the red "US Air Force" lettering for the fuselage. Are there any out there? thanks all!
  6. Thanks Jeff and Don. My son-in-law is a police officer and he's interested in a model of the Lenco Bearcat. I'll be able to take pictures, measurements, etc., and the Wikipedia says it's based on the F-550 frame. I didn't think about going to a Ford dealer. The sales guys will first swamp me with offers, then disappear when I say I want to build a model of a truck they have in stock. Hmm, maybe not a bad idea. . . . I may end up using an F-250 as a basis.
  7. I've been asked to build a model based on a Ford F-550 chassis. I know there's a kit of a Ford F-250, so being an airplane guy I'm not sure what the difference is from a dimension standpoint (I'm sure there is). If I wanted to make an accurate chassis, where can I find information, and is there a possiblity of using/extending the F-250 chassis and make it an F-550 chassis? Thanks!
  8. I'm looking for pictures, etc. of what the JATO bottles looked like on the Grumman HU-16 Albatross. I contacted New England Air Museum but didn't get a response. I have information on the mountings inside and outside, but not the bottles themselves. Thanks for any help!
  9. I've attached a scan showing the color scheme that I was referencing earlier.
  10. I came across a color drawing of an F-102A from the 59th FIS at Loring AFB in Maine. It was in the standard grey scheme with red wing tips and tail, only there were black footprints across the left wing and up the left tail. I'm sure the color scheme was short lived, and the author (editor of IPMS Tidewater "Model Topics," November, 1969) didn't note the aircraft number. It's a long shot, but does anyone have any information on this? Thanks!
  11. Thanks everyone! I went to a crafts store, but I never thought about going to a toy store. I wondering if enamels will stick to these "toys," and also what polyester resin would do to the figure. BTW, the pelican idea is out.
  12. I'm interested in finding a scale figure of an alligator and/or pelican, 1/48 scale (or a size around that). Approximate alligator size about 2 inches or so. The pelican-- about the size of a meal for the alligator . . . Any suggestions? Hard plastic or resin would work
  13. Thanks for the information. I think the Milliput will be too expensive-- the others I'll look into. I remember Dr. Frank Mitchell using that surfboard material for some of his stuff. I'm aware of the bulkhead techniques-- I wrote a couple of articles for the Journal-- one on scratchbuiding an AH-56 Cheyenne (all Bondo) and the other a 1/48 scale HU-16 Albatross. Stay tuned . . .
  14. G'day. I'm making a master for vacuumforming a fuselage. In the past I used Bondo two part putty (automobile stuff), which sets up quickly and is solid enough to take the vacuum form. However, once it sets it is VERY difficult to sand quickly, and dust is everywhere. I've tried regular (grey) modeling clay, but I don't think it will keep its form before crumbling. I was thinking of Skulpy, but that's about $50.00 a container (the fuselage is 14 inches long, about 3 inches high and 1 1/4 inch deep). Does anyone have suggestions? I was thinking of Plaster of Paris. Don't recommend the "take a block of wood and whittle . . ." route-- wood does not like me. Thanks~!
