  1. After the Summer off for recreational activities - The IPMS Motor City Kids are back at it for their 8th season of model building. Check out our website www.ipmsmotorcitykids.com of visit our facebook page for weekly updates.
  2. Don't forget you can check all upcoming events on the USA main page. It lists them all including next years events.
  3. I think I may have scored big on this one. I met a gentleman at a local hobby shop last weekend and he was telling me about the 1/92 scale USS Missouri he was scratchbuilding. The hull is 9 feet long!!! He then told me he had bought the Trumpeter 1/200 scale USS Missouri complete with the Pontos super detail set (w/blue deck), and was really wanting to get rid of it as it was too small of a scale for him (that's the funny part!). He promptly sold the whole set to me for $150 !!! Building begins this weekend. The strange thing is I was thinking about buying the combo at the Nats this year but decided against it due to the cost. I guess timing is EVERYTHING! 4. Loved the Omaha convention. Great crew. Looking forward to it.
  5. The crew from Livonia and the Motor City Kids will be there. Looking forward to a great show (as usual).
  6. Good to hear from our fellow Michiganders. Glad you're bringing a few from our great state. Sounds like only 5 or 6 coming from the Livonia group. Hope everyone has a safe trip. See y'all there. Bob

    Tamiya Simca 5

    Outstanding! Great job!!
  8. Roll call time. Who's going this year and what are you bringing? I'm going to bring a 1/6 Tamiya Harley Fatboy Lo. My son is bringing a space marine Gray Knight. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Have a safe trip.
  9. I got a great idea. Why don't you pack them up and take them to Virginia!!
  10. Last may, our club participated at Hobbyrama in Mount Clemens,Mi. It was a general hobby show involving vendors and clubs from all hobbies. Although most were train related, IPMS Livonia put on a display that was well received by the crowd. It was a two day event that drew hundreds of visitors. Most were very interested in looking at our display of models, reference material, tools and model related memorabilia. We also set up work stations so club members could work on projects and answer questions about them. I strongly believe that these displays are well within the capabilities of all IPMS clubs and should be taken advantage of to "get the word out" so to speak. Looks like a great Livonia Police lineup !!!
  11. Finished this new Tamiya model last month. Very nicely engineered kit. Haven't finished anything in a while so I gave myself a goal of 30 days. Goal reached. Added the upgrade kit from Tamiya. The only non-Tamiya items are my home made valve stems.(surprised Tamiya didn't include them).
  12. This is looking great! Great job with an "old mold" kit. I'm starting to get into German vehicles and this is some fantastic inspiration. Please keep the photos coming.
  13. Outstanding !!! Great photos. Looks like they had a blast. You're a good man for doing this. Keep up the good work.
  14. Sometimes, a mans got to do what a mans got to do.
  15. I'm sure some of the kids will definitely be there. They're getting ready now for the Regional in Warren. Some are even thinking the Nats in Virginia. I have lots of families interested in Columbus next year. We'll even have club shirts so the kids can show their "colors". I'm going to have the kids decide the actual club colors at the next meeting. My wife had the idea of incorporating tire treads in our logo. Dang, she's good.
  16. IPMS / Motor City Kids is now an IPMS chapter in Region IV. We were formerly known as the Nankin Kids Club, but we now have a new name that shows we are a junior chapter and most will gather that we're from the southeast Michigan area. We have a few adult instructors/advisers and about 25 regular junior members. Unlike most IPMS clubs that meet once or twice per month, we meet every Saturday morning for 2 hours. We run our meetings October thru March. Starting this Summer, we'll try to meet once a month (April-Sept), for a whole day of model building. Please feel free to check out our new website www.ipmsmotorcitykids.com ,and see what we're all about. Even though we're new to IPMS, we've had this club for 7 years now and have introduced more than 300 kids to the hobby. Some try it out and may not stay with it, but for others, they find they can't live without it. Both Nankin Hobby and IPMS / Livonia have been big supporters of our club and we can't thank them enough. If anyone would like more info on starting a junior/kids club, I'd be more than happy to share information with you. All it takes is a few adults and a little time and commitment. Believe me - it's well worth it !! Seeing these kids build and paint takes you right back to when you were a kid. It's the best thing I've ever done with my spare time. Bob Blevins (#41445)
  17. Here's a link to our new Kid's Club website.(www.ipmsmotorcitykids.com) Lots of photos of the kid's builds. Hope you enjoy it. Please leave comments if you like. We're currently in the process of trying to become an IPMS Junior chapter. We'll keep you all informed.
  18. Are there any IPMS Kid's model clubs around? I have a kid's club that I started 6 years ago and thought it would be neat if it was an official IPMS club. I'm sure there would or should be guidelines for being IPMS sanctioned. Anyone have an idea or who I should be in contact with? Thanks - Bob
  19. Wife bought me a Tamiya M1A2 SEP Tusk II with DEF Model basic kit and Eduard PE set. I LOVE MY WIFE!!! Also bought a AFV Club M1128 Stryker MGS with a gift card from my daughter. The girls in my family are top notch.
  20. Looks great. Drilled out portholes seem to make these models "pop out". Keep up the great work.
  21. Thanks guys - I'll make sure he reads this. He couldn't wait to get home from Loveland so he could start his 1/350 Tamiya Missouri.
  22. Looks great so far. I purchased the Academy Indy and the Pontos detail set at the Nats. I think that's going to be my next project. I really admire your work. Keep it up.
  23. The P-51 that took best a/c was maybe my favorite. Hard to say because of so many beautiful pieces of artwork. Perhaps the farmall tractor or the Langley. All were so amazingly built and finished.
  24. A stunner!! Looked even better in person at Loveland. Pat yourself on the back for this one.
