  1. It does not need to be resin. I use resin as a generic term. I googled "plastisol" and contacted all the major companies. None replied, but I kept trying. on or about my 5th email attempt to this company, (chemionics) which seems to be the biggest one, I finally received a response. When I called the main number I got a secretary who said the guy I talked to was not even in the same office. She transferred me. It must be a big company. I got his phone and his message said that he was in the office today but since he missed the call he must have not been by his desk and he would call you back..... So I left a message with my phone number, email address and physical address and asked for a quote. Nothing at all yet! I just need any inexpensive material that floats in fresh water, that I can hand pour to make a flexible frisbee disc! It does not have to be clear but I would prefer it to be!
  2. I have been looking for months and months for a suitable way to make my own "frisbee" discs. I have narrowed down my solution (ease of use, price, no machine needed) to plastisol. After trying to contact several plastisol companies for several months and being ignored for no reason that I can understand, someone finally replied to one of my emails. Thursday, June 23, 2011, 3:05 PM Hello Dave. Thank you for your response! This is my forward email address and you may reply to either of my email addresses they both come to one box. The application of interest is conventionally made using plastic injection molding but I am trying to break the mold here. I am experimenting as a hobbyist with making my own custom flying disks (frisbee) in particular "Disk Golf" disks and possibly turn my hobby into a business if my venture is successful. Plastic injection molding machines are expensive, and after watching some videos of the applications that plastisol is used for, it looked promising as a possible alternative and inexpensive material that could be used for my purposes. I want to basically make a mold of a disk, and then hand pour plastisol into the mold. I am assuming the general shore hardness I will need is A 80 but I have not experimented with hardness levels yet. I notice you sell 5 gallon pails and I would probably be starting with one of those to sample as I am not sure how well this will feasibly work until I actually try it. I mean clear, as in transparent, or water clear so you can see through it. This is not 100% necessary it is just desirable so that I can make custom designs/objects/foil embedded inside the plastic itself. It should float in fresh water definitely. It does not need to float in salt water however if it does float in fresh water I would assume it should float in salt water to some degree as well. Here is a picture of the type of product I am trying to duplicate. http://www.discgolfbasketstore.com/product_images/p/633/01_Champion_Ape__84917_zoom.jpg The problem with plastisol used for fishing lures is that it is too soft and when you add hardener to get it to the desired hardness it burns the plastisol when curing it so I need a custom plastisol designed with the hardness I need already without having to add the hardener. Thanks! I hope you have something that I can use and please get back to me with any additional questions! ____________________________________ Todd, I think I understand what you are trying to do. The only issue I see is the clear. Water clear needs a certain plasticizer, which is very expensive. We can make a decent clear with out using that plasticizer. We can take the same basic technology as a lure compound, only make it harder. I suggest going initially with 1 gallon, and scaling up from there - will that work? Dave Blackfan Chemionics Corporation ___________________________________ Yes ___________________________________ Todd, Please send me you physical shipping address. Thanks. ___________________________________ Dave, Are you sending the quote via U.S. Postal Service? I never received a reply after sending you my physical address on Thursday and it has been 5 days now. ___________________________________ The Last time I heard from Dave was on 6/23/2011 and it is now 7/10/2011 I have not received a reply. I sent 2 more emails. I called and was directed to his office and left a message last week. Why are these people ignoring me? Why is it so hard to find plastisol? Does anyone know a good reliable company?
