  1. Thank you for the compliments guys. Here's a long awaited update(for me anyway) The body and chassis are as one. All BMF is finished. The front bumper is just mocked up. The rear bumper is attached for good. A few touch ups are in order and then the Grill and all the scripts and emblems are going on next. But...I still need to redo the flames on the hood and that will be done tomorrow. Here are a few pics for a look...Thanks for lookin' in...
  2. OK....the tape is off and it looks A LOT better to me. Now...I'll let it setup for a few days and then rub it out. This build is on the last stretch towards home. Here's a few pics of the fresh paint...thanks for looking in folks....
  3. Hey Ed...thanks for looking in. It don't take very much patience on the sanding part....and actually....that's not very much putty on there. It looks kinda thick in the pic.. but it's not. It sanded down easily. The bottom pic shows it sanded and primed(again). I just finished shooting the blue back on. I'll pull the tape in a few minutes and shoot a pic. That's the part about Automotive Lacquer that I really like....it sets up fast.
  4. Here's some progress pics of ALL the re-do area's. The hood and (trunk lid...found dirt on the bottom in the paint..) have been re-shot with the blue. They look good to this point. Need to be rubbed out and they're finished. The rear body area between the window and trunk lid needed fixed also...It's in primer now and waiting for it to gas out and then sand. The Blue will be shot on it tonight...Thanks for looking in folks... HOOD and Trunk lid... The back....
  5. Here's a few pics of some progress. The hood was stripped and re-primed. putty was put on the nose as there where a few scratches that were pretty deep that I hadn't noticed before. Sanded the putty and while doing that...the hood hinge tube fell off in my hand...LOL I broke out the 5 min. epoxy and glued it back in place and that's where it is now....waiting for that to dry and then it will be primed and then shot with the blue. Thanks for looking in folks...
  6. Thank you Gil and Mark....Unfortunately... I put the hood in the stripper tank. Looking at the hood real close... revealed that I rubbed a little to much out of the white flame on the two raised areas. Sooo...It's scrubb time and repaint for the hood.
  7. Here are a few progress shots. The Flame pattern was drawn onto paper and then cut out and transferred to tape on the hood. I shot the white flames with flat white. Then went back and shot two or three coats of color to push the flames back a little. The hood has been rubbed out and will get at least two coats of clear...along with the rest of the body.
  8. Hey Ed....To my knowledge...I've never seen white body moulding on any car. Ya know....that might be an idea for a Custom build....Hmmmmm....Can't do it on this build though. Tim had Chrome. I don't think I explained myself very well. I'm going to use BMF(BARE METAL FOIL) on ALL of the molding areas. I wanted to show how smooth the moldings where when taped off before painting. I had to tape twice..once before priming and one more time before color paint. This will help the foil lay down nice and smooth. I still have to rub the paint out a bit and I'll do that in a day or two... and then clear coat it...then add the BMF.
  9. Here is a progress update.... The body was shot with Duplicolor and will be rubbed out in a few days. I really like this color of blue. Looking at the reference pics I have of the car...it seems pretty darn close. I tried something new on this body. I taped all the Chrome off as to not get any paint on them at all. I think it will make the BMF a lot smoother when it is applied. Here are a few pics..... IN THE PAINT BOOTH.... THE TAPE OFF and Mounted to chassis(mocked up) Thank you FOR LOOKING in....
  10. Thanks Mark. I'm in the process of re-taping all the chrome molding on the body to shoot the inside fender wells the satin black. I also have to tape the molding around the headliner and windows. When I get that finished...I'll post pics. The first coat of blue hopefully...will be laid down this weekend.
  11. Well...the chassis is finished and on its feet. The engine is finished and in. The heater hoses are not hooked up on the engine as that has to be done after the body is on. The brake lines have to wait until then also. Here are a few pics.... Chassis bottom..... Engine bay.....
  12. Man...that looks GREAT. A beautiful job Cruz! Did using the flat yellow under the gloss enable you to shoot less coats of the gloss? Man...that's a very clean build.
  13. Here's a few engine pics. It's pretty much finished. Throttle linkage, Fuel log and braided fuel line are in. The Air cleaners will be attached after the motor has been put in. The headers also. I had to pre-wire the motor before adding do to the headers flanges...that's why they're hanging out in the air. :-D Thanks for looking in folks...
  14. Hey Cruz...thanks bud. I found the kit # and the same pic as you showed. I found it on ebay. That kit seems hard to find....
  15. That looks GREAT Cruz. Your attention to detail and DETAIL Painting awesome. That interior and chassis look real. I want to do a 442 convertible build of a car that was in a boxing movie with Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson. Can't remember the name of the movie right now...but the car was a really cool Green and the redhead girl friend was the owner. IT sure looked like the car you did here. I have the amt issue of the hardtop but not the Revell kit. Could I get the Kit # of this kit if possible. Thanks....
  16. Thanks Jim.... Got the Chrome finished(Alclad) and am working on the linkaged for the Tri-Carbs. Motor is painted and ready to enstall. The Chassis is complete except for that. As soon asi I can get that Motor in..I'll shoot update pics of the finished chassis. Then...the Body will get paint. Here is a look at the Chrome work. Thanks for looking in folks.....
  17. ghodges, on 15 Jan 2014 - 17:02, said: I think those ARE Cragers Gil...I had to try and match what he had on the 1/1. I found these in the Parts box. They're pretty DARN close...according to ref pics anyway. The primer I used on this build is Alclad Gray. I bought the white also but haven't used it yet. I really like it...goes on smooth. I thinned it a tad(lacquer thinner) before loading it into the airbrush.
  18. Here are a few progress pics of the body ( in primer) on the chassis. I got the ride height where it should be. I had to add a new mounting blocks in the rear spring area to achieve that. The headliner color has been shot already. The engine bay color also. Some light sanding on the body and it's Color time.
  19. Thanks guys...I'm waiting for the weekend so I can lay down the interior body paint. Hopefully I can get this finished(the paint) this weekend. The engine bay is up next. I'll have a few update pics of the engine soon...
  20. Thanks for the Compliments folks.. Here's a few update pics of the finished interior. All is in mockup with the yellow stuff holding things in place. Started the BMF... Carpet laid down. The Steering wheel left OFF to see how things line up. Piping not added to seats yet. The box of Tapes in seat.... Piping added and the interior is pretty much complete. The E brake handle will be added when the whole interior is in final assembly...
  21. Hey Mark...Thanks. The underside??? Do you mean the chassis? If so...I used three different colors and airbrushed them on. The drk. Gray was shot in the recesses and then I used Satin blk on all the raised detail. Then the chassis rails were shot with Blk semi gloss. The lower "A" frame was shot with Alclad Magnesium. I'm going to use a Drk Gray wash in all the crevesses and then dry brush Light Gray on the high areas... as this was a daily driver. I kinda don't want to do it as I also like the look that it has....but....it's not straight from the factory...
  22. Thanks for the compliment Gil. You're very welcome for the tip. I found that it makes tire lettering a whole lot easier than using a 10 ott paint brush(which I've done to many that way...) Let's see....I think the tape might be "Cream-Greatest Hit's" or Jimi Hendrix-Are you Experienced. But...there's a box(remember them) of 8 trks that are in the front passenger seat. I think the "Lov'in Spoonful", Doors second Album, Iron Butterfly,BST,annnnd...we can't forget CCR are in that. Pics will be posted soon of that.
  23. Here are a few more update pics... Color on the chassis... Paint on Dash along with BMF. Stainless Steel tubing with Plastic rod inserts for the knobs... Finished Dash..... Painted interior and in mockup....
  24. Sharp lettering! I get the "Polly S" part...but what brush did you use? Did you use a dry-brush technique, or actually paint the raised letters? And, did you thin the paint at all? I'm sure your rock steady hand helped, but are there any other tricks you can pass along to get such neat results, like yours? GIL Hey Gil...I did thin the paint to a milk( 1%...fairly thin) consistency using 75% isopropyl Alcohol. Next...I used a Pink sanding stick ( rougher of the two sides) and sanded the letters as level as possible...with out sanding them to low. It usually don't take to much. Wash them with water afterwards. Next...I made a stamping tool out of a NEW #2 pencil eraser. To make that....I took a single edged razor blade and cut a "V" in the eraser looking Down from the eraser end. Keep the "V" part and cut the two sides along the brass ferrule at the bass of the "V" on the outside. What we have left is a RUBBER Stamp that has a Small and Large end that is Flat. Next...dip the rubber into the thinned paint...dob it onto a paper towel to take off the excess and then apply it to the tire lettering. The two sized ends help in different sized lettering. Here are a few pics...Hope this helps you....
  25. Here are a few pics of Chassis and the fabbed(from solder) exhaust pipes. The tips and mufflers are Detail Master. Also the dash will have fabbed knobs along with a 8 track tape player, tach and a two gauge setup underneath the jockey box. Chassis(mocked up) The two short sections of pipe will be added in final assembly.. The Dash with the knobs drilled out and cleaned up.... Modified firewall... The Wheels and tires. The lettering is hand painted using pollyS flat white... The Spare....
