  1. OK Guys,

Yesterday, the QUICKBOOST engines and cowls came. They look good.

Now, ... what are the color call-outs for the following items:

    The fuselage

    The wings

The cockpit bulkheads, panel, seat, throttle quadrant

Gear-wells and landing gear struts and wheel-hubs

Whatever parts of the engines which are visible

    Thank you,

    Tim

  2. Well, guys ...

I've just ordered the COBRA COMPANY F-7F set. $40 - He is just making the front cockpit for me. I'm going to have Stan build it as the day-fighter variant. I've also ordered the QUICKBOOST F-7F engines and cowls and I already have the STARFIGHTER DECALS set ...

  3. Yes, it does ... thank you. Asked that of Chris at COBRA COMPANY and got a (I think) sarcastic "It includes what you want ... the front cockpit..." That has me rethinking spending $40 for a 1:72 cockpit. I'm funny that way, I ask you a question about an item I'm buying from you, I expect a civil answer. So, thank you very much Joe. You answered my question, and did it nicely.

  4. Hi ...

I just heard from Chris from COBRA COMPANY ... he said he won't split up inventoried parts but he will make me a single seat F-7F cockpit, ... that is good and was very nice of him to do that. Overnight, I got to thinking, what engines were in Tigercats? P/W Wasp Cyclones?

  5. Hi Guys,

Well, today - my F-7F Tigercat from Doc Scarp came today in the mail. A few weeks ago, I ordered the F-7F Tigercat sheet from STARFIGHTER DECALS, I'm going to have Stan finish it as a VMF-312 bird from 1946. It should be an attractive build-up, don't you agree? I looked at Squadron.com and I can't see any cockpit detail set for an F-7F on there. Aires' set is out of stock ... I found a site for COBRA "SOMETHING" MODELS - they have one for the two seat night-fighter variant with a large radar radome ... does anyone knows where I can get a cockpit insert for the single seat day fighter variant?

  6. Hi Guys,

Well, today is the day of the week that I go over to my modeler, Stan's house to watch him build models for me. Our current project is a 1:144 Hobby Craft F-14A Tomcat. A couple of months ago, I was able to, via my brother, win two 1:144 F-14As - one from Hobby Craft and one from Ace on Ebay, ... something like $5 for the pair. I gave the one from Ace to Stan as a way to say thanks ...

The Hobby Craft kit isn't a bad little kit. It looks like a Tomcat, but the rivet-counters out there will find tons of errors. Though, there isn't even so much of as a rudimentary cockpit or pylons for the wings. Stan will scratch-build pylons for the wings so that 4 AIM-9s can be hung there. My 14 will be configured in the short-ranged interception role, 4 AIM-9s, 4 AIM-7s and 2 external fuel tanks. A nice man named Jim Moses sent me a 1:144 weapons set with the required missiles, and it contains what looks like the external fuel tanks.

I got the STARFIGHTER DECALS 1:144 set for VF-111 SUNDOWNERS. I am a little disappointed in that - a few years ago, when I originally ordered the set, I thought I was getting markings for MISS MOLLY. However, last week, when I was at Stan's and as he was gluing the fuselage and wings together, I looked at the set and whereas it's from VF-111, a F-14 with "200" on the nose with a sharkmouth's motif - there's no MISS MOLLY nose-art ... Oh, well.

  7. Wait, Ginter did a book on TIGERCATS. Darn it. Thank you guys. So, at the time of the surrender, VF(N)-52 was on its way on the Antienam and VMF(N)-531 was on Okinawa, and VMF(N)-533 was the one in China? OK, the -2 variant was the short-tail variant and a night-fighter variant? Were there two-seat or single seat and where was the radar? In the nose?

What could the Monogram 1:72 kit be made into, OOB?

    Tim

  8. Hi All,

Today, I sent a check off to a modeler named Doc Scarp for a Monogram 1:72 F-7F-3 TIGERCAT (the tall-tail variant). He says it has decals for the TIGERCAT from 1945 with a stylized 462 on the engine cowlings. That's "OK" by me; but I have a question. Doc says there might have been a squadron enroute to the Pacific just as the Japanese surrendered. Is that accurate? Would anyone here know what VF/VMF that might have been?

And, just now, I was online looking for reference photos (for Stan to use) of TIGERCATS, and I came across something on Wikipedia (yeah, I know) about a post-war operation (1945-46) in China (in support of Chang Kai Chek) and they had a photo of F-7F-3s on a Chinese airfield. Would those have kill markings or nose-art?

    Thank you,

    Tim

  9. Hi Guys,

Happy Friday. Hey ... can any of you help me? I've got an old RoG 1:100 F-14A Tomcat from the late 1980s or early 1990s. My late father was building it for me (I can't build due to my Cerebral Palsy). He built most of it and then, his eyesight and arthritis got too much for him and stopped. For some reason, I never got around to having anyone finish the model and it has sat on my shelf since I think before 9/11/01. Recently - I hooked up with a modeler (he did my P-47N-2-RE as CHATAUQUA and is currently doing my 1:32 Moebius BSG TOS Viper). I figured I would have him finish my father's unfinished F-14. But its box, parts and instructions are long gone. All it needs is a canopy. Do any of you have one that you don't want anymore? If you do, please EMAIL ME at PTConsultingNHR@aol.com. Thank you.
