  1. Martin, Thanks for your reply. I understand fully, the recent ban on air travel of paint has hurt. I'm a small time Brit rail modeler here in the US and the UK stockiest just aren't mailing overseas -- not cost effective for anyone. It's OK, I'll just continue to fake it -- close counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and color matching -- I'm happy and few other people would know anyway. Thank you again for a full reply. John
  2. Hi, interesting line of paint, and I've browsed your website. Here's the odd-ball question. Given the extensive number of rail colors, have you given any thought to British rail colors, particularly from the mid-to late 20th Century ? Thanks.
  3. Dang, sorry Tim, there was a vendor at AMPS/Danbury this weekend with some, looked like a complete line. Unfortunately I didn't pay enough attention to remember who. I looked on the show website, but none of the names ring a bell - maybe ask on the AMPS forum.
  4. Nick is correct, not that he needs any help from me.
  5. Nice one, Ron. Somewhere around here I have a part-done York using 'G'eorge and the Czechmasters resin conv kit. Not sure why I stopped work, might have been some excess warp in the resin fuselage.
  6. We'll probably do the same thing, although I'll keep the website, albeit slimmed down, for the archived articles and things that were always a source of pride to the club. I just don't have the time/energy to keep it fresh & viable. Problem is that going FB won't help recruiting as I don't see much activity/chat on it from our members. Time will tell.
  7. The image you attached is a P-40 not a Spitfire, so I'm a bit confused. British camo patterns were fairly standard but the colors and the markings changed with location, period, and sometimes with role. If you have a kit, it should tell you what colors you need to build whatever options it provides. If not, then you'll need to be a bit more specific.
  8. Where is the embarrassed icon when I need it ? I didn't leaf through the whole chapter. Happy that you found it and have the info you need.
  9. Sorry, Nick. I looked in Lewis' The British Bomber since 1914 (Putnam) and Barnes' Handley Page Aircraft since 1907 (Putnam) and found descriptions, dimensions, and several photos -- but no drawings. I can scan & send along what I have if you wish. I may have a few more places to peer into, some aviation magazines from the 30's but they aren't organized/indexed.
  10. Any book, tool, supply, paint (ie, not kit, decal, detail) is a blank.. Then for any kit, decal, detail 1/N or Nmm is considered valid, use it. Whether you parse off the occasional 'th' is up to you, probably doesn't matter.. Everything else can be either a blank or n/a or unk. Decals are sometimes an issue if you get multi-scale on one sheet -- in the old system we listed as 1/32-48-72 but we were doing it by hand. The egg plane "scale" is cute, but .... You do not need 100%, make it easy on yourself -- or ask the Reviewer Corps to go back and clean things up if really needed. FWIW.
  11. Mark, Unless, I miss my guess, Ron modeled his vehicle after the Chevy India Pattern Portee shown in this photo - he of course can tell you better. It's a bit of an odd-duck as the longer wheel base Ford F-30L, CMP was more prevalent I think. Regardless, his WIP photos tell you quite a bit. click to enlarge it
  12. Mark, There are several variations of the two-pounder portee -- not just in the base vehicle, but how the gun was mounted. On some the gun went up with the hitch forward and the two trails to the rear, on others the reverse. It really depended on whether one was fighting the two-pounder from the vehicle or more often transporting, then dismounting it for fighting. These were essentially field mods and you can find the Brits, the Kiwi's, and the Aussie's had different patterns. I started the Millicast Ford F30/portee kit a while back and changed the gun around to match my refs for a particular scene. (Got to finish it one of these days). If you Google for images, you'll have more than enough to work with and cannot really be wrong. If you get stuck, let me know -- I'm not an expert (nor was I there :) ) but I do have a pile of reference material.
  13. I will simply point out that the old, now archived, review system showed manufacturer, scale, and product name in the title, in that order. No effort was made to include what kit(s) any aftermarket was for in the title unless that was part of the product name, just in the fuller description in the review. (Publications were usually shown as publisher, title with some effort to include the series where applicable.) IMO, those 3 items are the most important discriminator when scanning the kit lists, and they are good enough to give an indication for aftermarket that it might be worth a further look. Most modelers KNOW what the items are already, from many other sources, and are there to find an IPMS build review of it.
  14. Well done, Ron !! Some superb craftsmanship that captures the look & feel quite well.
  15. Read this: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html
  16. OTOH, it seems that a 1/48 Walrus is also in the works, so those of you who missed out on the CA kit have another chance.
  17. There are several -- google "profile publications pdf" and look around. First one on the list is http://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/index.htm then on the left menu "and plans" and look in the books/magazines on the right side. This is aircraft only, if you want armor or ships I don't know ...
  18. BTW, I gather it is already OOS -- must have had enough for pre-orders and SMW stocks. Will take 6 months to get over here anyway unless you order direct.
  19. In stock at Airfix UK as of this morning; the colonies should have it in a few months ...
  20. On the contrary, vacs have to be the best source for 'tween wars aircraft and I would be happy to see a list of what you might have available from that era.
  21. They look great, Mark !! Same box showed up here today, I wonder how.
  22. Bummer, I always like grazing at your table. Order sent. Got it today Rusty, sure is nice - well after I got over the pink resin . Wish I had room/time to start right away, but I will spend some time researching the ties to NC via the crew.
  23. Bummer, I always like grazing at your table. Order sent.
  24. Hmmm, agreed that looks really great ! I may come visiting online .... or are you going to vend them at Columbia ?
