Oleg. Thanks for the link. This is going to be really helpful on detailing the cockpit. Ron W.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the info. I a ship builder, but the club wants to do this Spitfire, and the only colors I know is haze gray and hull red. Ron W.
  3. Richard, I was originally thinning the paint per Testor's recommendations and using around 30-35 psi. Every time I pressed the trigger I got those splats. It also helped with the dusting. Ron W.

    Spitfire MK1

My club is having a little contest. We are building a Spitfire Mk1. The thing is that it has to be brush painted. My question is what colors are appropriate, including interior, and any advice on getting smooth finish. Thanks, Ron W.
  5. I was getting these blotches of paint with a Paasche H a/b using enamel paints. I was told to thin the paint more and turn down the pressure. After some experimentation with Testor's and Floquil, thinning 3:2 ratio and using between 20-25 psi works pretty good. Ron W.
  6. Thanks Andy. I looked on line and didn't see the Mac truck but I did see other RPM models I want! I will have to wait for the flyer to come in the mail. Ron W.
  7. I can't feather it because of all the small parts in the way. I am a little nervous about using alcohol. I have tried using 96% before, on a different model, and it destroyed it. Is 70% better? Ron
  8. Hi Mike. Please forgive my ignorance but what is LHS?

  9. I thought the Glosscote was lacquer based, but I just found out that Testors makes 2 types of spray overcoats. I finished the can, so now I am not sure but it sure did smell like the old lacquer based stuff. Made me happy until I was dragged out into fresh air!
  10. Mike, sorry for the late reply but I was away for a few days. The masking was applied on top of the Testor's Glosscote. I had applied a few coats of Glosscote and the masking appears to have taken all the layers off. It didn't touch the enamel paint underneath. A person at my local hobby shop says that it has ammonia in it.
  11. I had sprayed a ship model with several coats of Testor's Glosscote in prep for weathering. After a good week of drying I used Hobbico Master Mask on the edges of the deck, while weathering the hull. When I removed the liquid mask I saw that it also removed the Glosscote, leaving a very noticeable ridge along the deck. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron W.
  12. I have heard (REPEAT HEARD) that some paint manufactures are adjusting the brightness of there paints to take scale effect into consideration. Any truth to this? I can see scale effect between real size and any model size, but I think the effect between 1/32 scale and 1/72 scale would be so minimal that one would probably make it worse by trying to adjust for it.
  13. I am glad I had posted my question because I have a lot of kits out there that I didn't know existed. Thanks guys!
  14. Andy, I can't find the Monogram trucks. Are they still being produced? Thanks for the info on the RPM trucks. Sounds like I had better start on something easier, but I am going to get them for my shelf now! Nick, that Commander Models Ford is an interesting subject. Thanks for the note on that. Ron W.
  15. Guys thanks for the help on this. Now I have some more choices I didn't know of before. Rob, that Landships website is a huge help.
  16. Rob, Thanks for the info on these models. Didn't know about them. Do you have any experience with them, if so how are their models as far as accuracy and quality? Thanks, Ron W.
  17. Patrick, I am looking for any scale. Right now I am more into plastic, as I am trying to increase my skills there, but I will look at other media as well. Ron W.
  18. Is Emhar the only company making WWI armor and vehicles or are there others? Thanks, Ron W.
  19. Thanks David, I will give it a shot.
  20. Thanks David, but will this repair the damage or do you mean to use Future from now on?
  21. :( I made a huge boo boo. Yesterday I sprayed the my ship ( Revell's Hawaiian Pilot ) with Testor's Glosscote in preperation for weathering and decaling. Today I wanted to spray another coat, so I gave the hull a quick, light wipe using 97% ISO alcohol. Bad mistake! I really didn't think rubbing alcohol would damage the glosscote. The paint on the hull isn't damaged, but I have to repair the damage on the glosscote. I am thinking about spraying light coats, hoping this will fix it. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, if the glosscote was given a few days to cure would the alcohol have the same affect? By the way, I use 97% because I also use it to clean my mill and lathe. Thanks, Ron W.
  22. Thanks everyone for the welcome. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I do not do 700 scale, as of yet anyways, but a friend of mine does Japanese WWII ships. He even puts little people on there! But you need a magnifying glass to see them. I AM a Tin Can Sailor. What did you serve on Chris? Hi Phil, how did you like our "blizzard".
  23. Thanks Mark. I always have plenty of questions and maybe can even help sometimes. You have a great Thanksgiving too.
