  1. That turned out very well, Gil! Nice job! later, Lee
  2. Looks terrific, Mike! Later, Lee
  3. Tim, I've heard that the Seiran is a terrific kit (in both scales). I figure I'll get my hands on a 1/48 version down the line. And which HC Corsair gave you fits? Their repop of the Monogram F4U-4 is a real bugger but their own line I've always had pretty decent luck with. Later, Lee
  4. BBBWWWAAAHHHAAAAHHHHAAAAA!!!!! Still Laughing, Lee
  5. Just curious what everyone's "fail-safe" kit(s) may be. You know the kind...you just smile whenever you see one on the shelf, at a show or pull it from your stash. Here's my aircraft list. Any 1/72 Penguin/Air Lines/FROG/Novo kit...just something about them makes me feel like a little kid again and I love the box art. Monogram's 1/48 B-29...built this as a kid and just thought it was sooooo cool. And I dig the lines of the B-29. Fujimi's 1/48 Bf 109G and K series...yeah, I'm one of the oddballs that prefers this series over the newer Hasegawa series. I like the challenge and the spares are terrific for my other '109s. Still working on having at least one of each boxing. Any Trimaster 1/48 Fw 190 kit...I especially like the A-8/R11. It just sums up to me the Trimaster experience. Demainding, challenging and wholly rewarding when done. Monogram 1/48 P-38J...open it up and take a long walk back to your childhood. Remember the sheer thrill of seeing all of those extra parts and how many different versions you could make? I do every time I see this kit or build it. Hasegawa 1/48 Bf 109E series...what a classic. It falls together, looks the part and is just a nifty little kit. Revell 1/32 P-40E...I'm from Alaska and I just got suckered in by the Aleutian markings. Anad it's a P-40. 'nuff said. Monogram 1/72 and 1/48 P-51B...another classic that just feels and looks right. Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk.V...it's a Spitfire...it's an Airfix kit...how much more "right" could it be? Tamiya 1/48 A6M Zero series...terrific detail and a nice, comfortable kit to build regarless of the version. Actually the entire early line of 1/48 Japanese fighters by Tamiya really fits into this. Monogram B-25 series...loads of detail, big but not "too big" and enough different nose and armament setups to please anyone. So, what's on your list? Lee
  6. Okay Les, I'll take your word for it on the Lindberg DD. I stay away from ships because I've seen what folks can do with them and I simply know I cannot do them the justice they deserve. Plus I'm just not interested in PE railings and such. I appreciate it all but any ship i would build (which would be 1/350th battleships) would be OOB. James C those are some very good points you brought up. I think that you nailed it very well in describing your client base. That was very similar with the RR crowd when I ran a hobby shop in Kentucky back in the mid to late 1990s. Even the R/C guys had some folks who were collectors and THAT was an escoteric group there...I learned more than I ever needed to know about OS and Thunder motors! Later, Lee
  7. You're my kinda modeler, Paul! Up with the oldies! Of course when I say that at this point Trimaster qualifies as an oldie! But I do have a spoft spot for the old stuff and a REAL weakness for FROG kits. That's my one 1/72 scale vice. Les, I will agree that some of the old stuff does make you pull your hair about a bit more than necessary. But I figure I can grow hair...but I'll be darned if I can grow $50 bills! Later, Lee
  8. Just wanted to shout out kudos to you on a job well done, Carl! really nice paint work and it's just a super clean build. Later, Lee
  9. Ah, thank you VERY MUCH for finding and posting this info. I was the one asking about this and the cross-reference book that Dave Klaus put out for FS colors. Grateful, Lee
  10. That turned out very sharp! Thanks for sharing! Later, Lee
  11. Well, for me I have a few for each category... Best kit: 1/48 Fujumi Bf 109K-4. I followed some good advice on how to get the cowling to fit the fuselage properly and it was all quick and easy after that. To this day this line of '109s is my favorite to build. Also worth mentioning are the 1/48 Tamiya Rex and 1/48 Hasegawa Bf 109E. Worst Kit: 1/48 Idea P-40E. An old repop of the Otaki kit by Hobbycraft before they became Hobbycraft as we know it. Why (and how) I finished this I could not tell you. Copious amounts of super glue were needed to hold it together. Even the few Starfix kits I built were not this bad. Later, Lee
  12. I recall these kits being released back in the early to mid 1990s and that they are all metal...kind of like a Pocher kit for 1/48 scale builders. I have always wanted to have one and build it. I think I may even have an ad or two in the back of some of my older magazines about them. Does anyone have any info/pics/opinions or even a listing of their kits? I know they did a bunch of Spitfires and a few Fw190s. I would be very grateful for any help as I recently worked out a deal for a Fw 190 and am pretty thrilled after all of these years to finally have one in my stash. It's soon to be sitting in Kentucky awaiting my arrival back home. Later, Lee
  13. So, the mere thought of building AMT's old 1/48 Ju88A-4 makes you run away and scream? Sorry, I could not help it. I wrapped up this kit back in December and it certainly was a "unique" experience. But also worthwhile as it made me appreciate the fiddly Dragon offerings even more. And I figure the older stuff that has fit/accuracy issues helps to keep our complete modeling skills fresh. Later, Lee
  14. making a small but notable comeback amongst us modelers? It seems to me that I have been seeing older kits eithe rbuilt up or brought back to the workbench by more and more modelers over the past 6-8 months. It may just be me but I wonder if anyone else out there is picking up a trend (of sorts) here? I personally love the older stuff and have plenty of it. But the newer stuff although nice seems to be getting more and more expensive leaving some modelers to "catch up" when these kits have been on the market for awhile. Funny thing about that thought is that some of these newer kits seem to rarely if ever pop up in the 2nd hand market (unless you are on Ebay). Any thoughts on this in IPMS land? Later, Lee
  15. Anotehr nice build, Tim. That is a nifty old kit...nice to see teh old stuff gettin' some love these days. Later, Lee
  16. That's terrific, James! Later, lee
  17. Yeah, there is quite a bit of possibility out there. I would expect to see some nifty stuff come out in the figure market. Later, Lee
  18. Looking good! As I recall that is a bit of a tough kit to build. I look forward to seeing yours completed! Later, Lee
  19. A very splendid job on the white (and yellow), sir. Thanks for lett me know. later, Lee
  20. Thanks for teh tip on the red paint, Tim. Later, Lee
  21. Very ncie work, sir! That's a sweet paint job. Later, Lee
  22. No sweat...and that XP-77 fits in with your building theme of smaller stuff as it sure is a small aircraft! I've thought of getting a 2nd one and building both prototypes...just for something different. Again, a very nice job and thanks for your insights on building and detailing the kit. Later, Lee
  23. Really nice to have you on board here, bart! Thanks for a wonderful build and for taking the time to drop in. Later, Lee
  24. Very sharp, Tim...did you paint the white or was that decals? Later, Lee
