  1. An interesting article was posted on http://craftsmanship.net about scale modeling.. http://craftsmanship.net/parts-recreation/ Eric
  2. Watch Adam Savage and Battlestar Galactica's Aaron Douglas build Cylon models... http://www.tested.com/art/makers/521822-adam-savages-one-day-builds-cylon-models-battlestar-galacticas-aaron-douglas/
  3. While I agree on the general idea of the full quote, this paragraph misses a wider point. Perhaps it would be worthwhile for model companies to produce kits which relate to the current interests of prospective modelers instead. If changing their current interests was a successful pathway, you'd be able to directly interest them in scale modeling as opposed to being interested in scale models of Spitfires. Eric
  4. Yup, should be good to go. There might be another interruption as the tech support ticket was not clear if the work has actually been completed. Eric
  5. Just contacted Tech Support for the ipmsusa2.org server - the location of the online store. They are working on resolving a major server issue so the site will not be accessible until they are finished. Eric

  7. Hi, Something odd is going on.. Checking it out. Eric

  10. See http://tamiyablog.com/2015/01/24338-124-mercedes-benz-300sl-gullwing-details-at-nuremberg-toy-fair-2015/ Jim, its unlikely we'll see a 12th scale car kit from Tamiya anytime soon. It's just too expensive to tool up and too limited a market. The best bet is that someone like Model Factory Hiro or Studio 27 would do those kits. 11. Hi Ed, Both messages you are getting are 'page not found' errors and are not you getting locked out of the site - if you can access the Forums, you should be able to see the home page. While I've not resolved the primary 404 page issue, I do have duplicate index pages at that main site, so you should be able to access them. So let's try this - go to http://www.ipmsusa.org/about to try to access the site. There should be no cache or anything on your system for that link Also, can you go to http://www.ipmsusa.org/browser_test.html and let me know which browser you are using? Thanks, Eric I have yet to see the new home page. I can't get to it through any method. I get the 404 error every time. I typed in Eric's suggested link above and got a white screen with the single sentence "The system cannot find the path specified." I am only able to get directly into the forum with Google Chrome by doing a search on ipms and selecting the choice forum.ipmsusa3.org , which takes me directly to the forum home screen and entering my username and password as usual in the box. So, now I am in, but clicking on the IPMSUSA Home Page link on the left end of the menu bar gives me the 404 message. I hate to think this is now my third computer that has been upgraded out of the IPMSUSA website. Ed
  12. Er, the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society (IPMS) ?? Heh. I'm attempting to get Google to remove the bad link but I've also replaced the old file with an added meta-refresh line which should send everyone to the live page. And I'm still trying to get the 404 / page not found issue resolved with the web host. E
  13. Grrr.. the editor munged the link in the reply to Chris - is now fixed. It should be http://www.ipmsusa.org/index.shtml
  14. Hi, Try http://www.ipmsusa.org/index.shtml - if that does not work, I'll be really surprised. Am working on getting the dead link fixed on Google, plus getting the 404 page on the server fixed... been trying to get tech support to fix the latter for three days. E
  15. What are you linking to? www.ipmsusa.org should work... E
  16. I am adding the various ideas and suggestions here >> https://trello.com/b/YM8X891Z E
  17. Hm.. That's an odd one - no idea how that got changed. I fixed the link. Eric
  18. A quick note - I am keeping an eye on suggestions for changes to the site. They are much appreciated. I've got a couple other tasks to finish and there is an issue with the web server needs to get resolved first. Thanks again.. Eric
  19. I'm assuming you did not see the block that listed the most recent public Forums posts on the lower section of the home page? While I agree we should highlight various aspects of our websites, other members who are involved with the Gallery / Reviews / Nationals / STT / MnT parts of the Society might also want separate links in the menu... what I would like to do is use the nature (and functionality) of these other sites - like the recent Forum posts block - to show the dynamic nature of IPMS, how we provide timely information, and how we provide a service to the hobby and to our membership. E
  20. Hi, I bumped down the settings for the browser update bar to not include IE9. While not bashing IE, according to Microsoft's own page (and this one), they technically still support IE 5.5, 6, and 7 until 2016. All three of these browsers have serious issues when it comes to following the HTML standards - even the ones set at the time those browsers were released - which make developing pages that are compatible with them and any newer browser a nightmare of massive proportions. I'm not even mentioning some of the security issues some which may or may not have been fixed. We're also reliant on companies who provide third party software, for the Forums, the Online Store, etc, which requires code and security updates. Those companies are also dropping support for older browsers but we have to apply these updates to maintain the integrity of our websites. I'm not too happy with the situation either but I don't see a viable option if we (IPMS) are going to provide the services the Members require or desire now or in the future. Also, Robert, please let me know what issues you are seeing with IE9 - I did do some testing with that browser, but not with Vista Home Edition. Eric
  21. It is linked in the menu bar, but I can either alter the text in the lower button or the link. Eric
  22. Hi Folks, Tonight I uploaded the new IPMS/USA website. It is probably the biggest change to the site in the last ten years or so... But before I get too far, if you encounter a problem with the website, including problems with the archive of the previous site, please post in this topic >> http://forum.ipmsusa3.org/index.php?/topic/14261-ipmsusa-website-issues/. I would like to keep issues separate from this topic. So what has changed? No more frames! So now you can actually link to a real page without losing the navigation. This will really help with Google searches as well. Desktop and Mobile (phones and tablets) responsive theme. This means that a single HTML file can do both a desktop and mobile version of a page. A good percentage of the visits to the site are via mobile devices and that number has risen steadily for the past few years. Simpler navigation. Most of the site can be reached via the main menu bar and the dropdown menus. There are a few pages which have side menus to dig deeper, but not too many. Modern code - the site was built with the latest version of HTML which means it should be good for many years. This does mean that older, out of date browsers may have some issues, but they also have many security issues, so you should probably update. If you are using a browser that is not current, you will be a small, closable notice at the top of the page which provides a link to download an alternative browser. A lot cleaner - both in appearance and the number and location of files. So what is left to do? There are still some files still to be updated - mostly the Executive Board Meeting Minutes - but the previous site is archived at: http://www.ipmsusa.org/archive/index.htm so if there is a page you cannot find, it'll still be available. There are a few graphical and functional additions I would like to do, but those can probably wait. One page I need to clean up a bit is: http://www.ipmsusa.org/national_contest_committee/modelers_guide_2013.htm I'd like to add a search functionality - will probably need to wait until Google indexes the new site for that... Here is where I am keeping track of the things to finish up and the suggestions made so far >> https://trello.com/b/YM8X891Z If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please reply to this topic and I will reply ASAP. Thanks much, Eric
  23. If you are experiencing a problem with the IPMS/USA web site - either the new site or the archived site - please post here. A lot of changes were made and some 'breakage' would not be surprising. There may be broken links, missing images, browser issues, etc. If possible, in your post please: Give a description of the problem Post a screen shot of your issue Visit http://www.ipmsusa.org/browser_test.html - and copy&paste the "Browser Version" and "User-agent header" information The link to the page with the problem Provide any other relevant information I will attempt to resolve any issues that may arise.... Thanks much, Eric Aitala - Webmaster
