  1. Noel is absolutely correct! I've been to the Telford Convention only three times and each visit was a fantastic experience. The convention center is massive, with food service, restrooms, lounge areas where one can sit down and relax for a while, and good lighting. Noel mentioned that the hotels in Telford are usually filled to capacity and that happens very early, in fact, some book their rooms in the Telford hotels before departing from the convention currently under way.
In 2018 the three gents I traveled with and I stayed in the Prince Rupert Hotel in Schrewsbury. Schrewsbury is a very short and enjoyable train ride from Telford, and the tickets were inexpensive. The walk from the Prince Rupert to the train depot was under 10 min, and when arriving in Telford the Convention had hired a shuttle bus to transport us from the train station to the Convention Center. Even the walk is only about 15 to 20 minutes.
If you have the time and transportation be sure to visit the RAF Museum-Midlands located near Cosford. The drive from Cosford to Telford is about 15 minutes. The museum is spectacular!
You can enter the contest (IPMS membership required) but it must be done prior to the event and not onsite.
    Contest entries are uniformly stunning!

The SIG displays are awesome and the SIG members manning the tables are friendly and informational.

A Telford visit should be on everyone's bucket list!

  2. This is my first Arma kit and I concur with a comment made in another forum thread about the high quality of Arma kits. The amount of detail and the high quality of the molding is outstanding. Just to show some of that detail here is a photo of the cockpit sub-assembly. A few more bits are to be added.

The "fit" is exquisite. A thorough examination of the instruction illustrations is helpful when locating the parts properly. Arma recognized an error or two in the instructions so a separate "flyer" is included that provides a visual "description" of how to fix the issues. It was no trouble at all and took very little time to execute the "fixes".

  3. We tend to focus on our own IPMS/USA National Convention, and rightly so. But we are not the only IPMS Branch that hosts an annual convention. Each year IPMS/UK hosts their national convention in Telford, England, a mid-sized town not far from Birmingham, or about 3 hrs from London if you dare to drive on the opposite side of the road.

The facility is a massive complex called The International Centre. Vendors and SIG or Club Display tables consume most of the space while the contest space is rather small compared to what we see at the USA convention. This year the event was very well organized, well attended, and quite the location to be for a day and a half. Saturday is the big day and the convention running on Sunday to about 16:00 (or 4 o'clock). The quality of the models as seen on the SIG and club tables is outstanding, and the quality of the models in the contest area is absolutely staggering. People are friendly, food is available at a couple of kiosks, and you'll put quite a bit of mileage on your feet as you walk throughout the building.
I've been lucky enough to have attended 3 conventions at Telford, but that's nothing compared to some other USA modelers who are now pushing 20 convention visits!
If you've never gone to Telford you need to add it to your bucket list!
Thanks to the IPMS/UK folks who put on a world-class event!

  4. Benefits - Your chapter will be listed on the IPMS website (assuming you've completed the Chapter Charter process) and that helps interested modelers locate chapters in their areas.  The Regional Coordinator can help you to plan and execute your annual chapter contest, should your group decide to host one. Possessing a chapter charter allows your chapter to apply for insurance coverage of the type of event described above.

In short, being a chartered chapter (literally) puts you on the map.

  5. MODELFIESTA 40 UPDATE  Jan 8, 2022 New Braunfels Civic/Conference Center-New Braunfels, Tx

    Please share with your members.

Pre-Registration for model entries is now underway. Pre-Registering your contest entries will significantly reduce your “time in line” on the day of the event. It’s a simple process. Go to alamosquadron.com and navigate to “ModelFiesta 40”, and then “Registration”. The Pre-Registration forms can be downloaded and there is additional information concerning submission of the forms via email.

THIS JUST IN!   Tamiya is sponsoring the Armor Class and also is sponsoring an Individually Sponsored Award for “Best Tamiya Model”.  Remember that the entrant must “log in” any model eligible for an ISA (Individually Sponsored Award) in a folder at the Theme/ISA Station (There will be signs!)

The Vendor Area continues to grow as each week more tables are reserved. If you are interested in vending at ModelFiesta 40 you can find information about how to reserve a table on the Alamo Squadron website. ( alamosquadron.com)

Please feel free to contact alamosquadron@gmail.com if you have any questions.

  6. I thought that there was a deadline of Sept 15th for votes to be received either by the online voting system or by paper ballots being sent to the IPMS Office Manager's address.

Checking today I see no note that voting has been closed, and in fact, the message on the Online Voting System link shows it is still open.

What is the deadline date? When will the results be announced? And I assume that, as in the recent past, the newly elected will take office on Nov 1. Is that correct?

  7. I consider the price of the Raffle tickets to be a "contribution" to the financial success of the event. I don't expect the host club to take any action on my behalf. I enjoyed the event and plan on attending the event next year.

Called Stevens Int., which is the importer for Trumpy kits. The staffer with whom I spoke said that Stevens did not have any replacement parts for this particular kit due to its age.

She also asked where I bought the kit. I wasn't going to lie to her so I told her that it was a raffle item at a local show. She said that Stevens replaced parts, if supplies were on hand, when the kit was purchased from a hobby shop, etc.

I hoping I'll come across someone who has that part and is willing to "part" (play on words) with it. I'll start construction anyway..... perhaps I can vacuform a replacement....but if not, then a "tarp" will be modeled and draped over the windscreen.

I'll still have the enjoyment of building the kit. All is well.

  8. I recently won a Raffle prize....the Trumpeter 32nd TBM-3 Avenger. Wow! Nice!  When I returned home from the show where I won the kit I found that the windscreen was cracked into two pieces. If you happen to have this kit and, perhaps the part inventory is not complete, or there is damage to parts other than the windscreen, you might consider reaching out to me regarding your mint condition windscreen, or even the entire runner for the clear parts.

I really, Really, REALLY don't want to attempt to vacuform a replacement.
