  1. Welcome aboard, Kevin and Scott! Glad to have you. There is more than enough expertise from all the members here to go around. Feel free to join in anytime. Best, Mark Fiedler (aka aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  2. Welcome aboard! You're seeing the best period in Plastic Modeling history. When I started back in 1955 a few 1/144" scale Aurora B-17s were available. That definitely was the Stone Age! Happy Modeling, Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  3. Welcome aboard John. IPMS is a great place to be and the hobby is also. There are plenty of us out here should you need some help. Enjoy! Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09 IPMS #14333
  4. Welcome aboard Bob. One of the many members I knew from IPMS North Central Texas was a paleontologist named Jim Cook, PhD. who is into dinosaurs. I don't have his current e-mail address but I would try to contact Bruce Culver or Sean Glaspell if you like ( you can find contacts at the main IPMS website-Chapters) at the NCT club should you need some help with subject/modeling etc. Happy Modeling, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  5. Very nice F4U. Everytime I see a Vought product, it reminds me of Mr. Russ Clark and Rex Beisel who my father worked with and later had them as guests for dinner at our house during the 1950's in Dallas, Texas, and knew them when I was a boy. Those men were the main designers of the Corsair as designed and refined. As I grew older I began to appreciate this generation a whole lot more. Happy Holidays, Mark Fiedler (aka aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  6. Very nice Don. Mannock would be proud. Happy Holidays, Mark Fiedler (aka aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  7. Very nice job! Nice to see a natural metal variation on a Navy aircraft from the 1950's. Happy Holidays, Mark Fiedler (aka aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  8. Very nice Chris. Both fighters are well done! The Tamiya P-47D kit is great and the P-40 is no slouch either. Thanks for your book reference on Kidd Hofer. I'd like to read that sometime. Merry Christmas, Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  9. Thanks guys for the compliments. Credit goes to Dr. Anes for the photos, but he didn't attach the prop as securely as he should in some of the takes. According to our editor, Chris Bucholtz, Kid Hofer was downed by flak battery "Legion Condor" Regiment 9, on July 2, 1944 in another P-51B (43-6746) while stafing an airfield in Mostar, Yugoslavia, according to records released in 2003 and not Erich Hartmann. Reference: 4TH Fighter Group, "Debden Eagles' pp. 89-90, (Chris Bucholtz). Happy Holidays, Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  10. Welcome aboard Ben. Glad to have you. If you need help just ask us. If you see my old friend Chuck King in your area tell him I said "howdy". (Chuck and I were members of IPMS/NCT (North Central Texas-Dallas) around 20 plus years ago.) Happy Modeling, Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09) IPMS# 14333
  11. Joe Foss would be proud of that Wildcat! And the Zeke is great too! Nice work, Greg. Happy Modeling, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  12. Hello Dave and welcome to the forum from your neighbor from below the Red River-Texas. We're here to help, so feel free to join in. My area of interest (1930-1955) also takes in WWII aircraft subjects. I don't mind helping out. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Mark Fiedler (alias aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  13. Welcome aboard Will. Those are nice! Are you any relation to William Self, actor/producer in Hollywood (circa 1940's to 1960's)? Hope you enjoy our forum. Best, Mark (alias aAzZ09) IPMS #14333
  14. For me, an old fud, it's almost a toss-up between "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) and "Them" (1954), both truly oldies but goodies. If anyone wants to find old movies look up moviesunlimited.com. They have at least 800,000 titles from old to new films recently released. Best, Mark (alias aAzZ09 IPMS# 14333
  15. Nice going! Migs have always had such a sinister look and you have captured that effect very well. Happy Modeling, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  16. Welcome aboard Ron. If you have any modeling questions, feel free to ask. That is what IPMS is all about, as our motto states " By Modelers- For Modelers". Happy Modeling, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  17. Great work! There are additional references for Ford Motor Co. archives through Silverado Publishing Co., P.O. Box 393,St. Helena Ca., 94574 . Mr. Loren Sorensen, Publisher. The specific Hardbound book, "Ford's Golden Fifties" is available. ISBN 0-942636-05-8. I do not have a website for Silverado Publishing yet. Although I am an aircraft modeler, I have a fondness for cars I saw when I was growing up in the fifties. I hope this is of some help to you guys. Best, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  18. Nice work! P-51B models look so good. I just finished one myself. Hope to have a decent camera soon. Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  19. Great work, Ryan. Welcome aboard! I'm new to the forum too. We hope you enjoy it. Happy Modeling, Mark (alias aAzZ09)
  20. Thank you Ken. I will look that up. I've spent awhile finishing that P-51B, and I'm sure the late 2Lt. Ralph Hofer of the Mighty Eighth's 4th Fighter Group would approve. (It's "The Salem Representative" and yes, it does have white sidewall tires in addition to the full invasion stripes i.e., D-Day, 6/44, Osprey Publishing, 4th Fighter Group 'Debden Eagles', p.82). And I would have pictures of it ready except my camera went out a couple of weeks ago and I haven't been able to replace it anytime soon. Sorry about that. I hope to have this situation remedied soon. Best, Mark Fiedler alias aAzZ09 IPMS#14333
  21. Nice photos Tim. Before I retired from the Aerospace industry eighteen years ago, a co-worker told me his father-in-law flew airliners, some of which are shown in these photos. Among the first cargo flights was a very poor itinerate musician trying to get to Minneapolis, MN. from St. Louis, MO. and had to borrow the aire fare from him (the pilot!). The flight was unscheduled and had to be authorized by his boss who reluctantly approved. Upon arriving at his destination, he needed to borrow another nickel to call his fellow musician who was already at the hotel to pick him up. His friend had enough money to repay the pilot and with great haste both managed to get a taxi back to the hotel. The year: 1936. For those of you old enough to remember some of the music played on TV during the 1950s his name was Lawrence Welk. Happy Modeling, Mark Fiedler alias aAzZ09 IPMS #14333
  22. Hey China Clipper! I am he you speak of! It's good to hear from you! Your kind reply is most appreciated. I have been in the Austin area for four years now due to job/economics etc. I'm hoping to be able to build more in the coming years. I'll be at the Austin (ASMS) show on the 26th of September. Hope to see you and possibly some of the NCTers there. Happy Modeling, Mark Fiedler IPMS #14333
  23. I just finished an Accurate Miniatures 1/48" P-51B out of the box and equipped with the Malcolm Hood. My question is, and it is not illustrated in the kit's instuctions, is that a small "whip" aerial antenna replaced the standard dorsal antenna found on ordinary "Bird Cage" canopy P-51 B and Cs as the Malcolm Hood would have faced a major obstruction for any pilot in sliding the canopy backward otherwise. Is it legal to add the "whip" antenna or not? Thanks. Mark Fiedler, alias aAzZ09
  24. Thanks Mark, I hope to be able to contribute soon. Best, Mark, IPMS#14333
