  1. Just got the Combrig 1/700 Nebraska. There's a nice kit, although its still in the box. There's no telling how much money I would part with to get this in 1/350 with cages. Rick L.
  2. Pretty much just drilled two holes next to each other and eyeballed it. Pre-rigged the upper wing before installing it, then worked one line at a time tightening each with a small pencil type soldering iron instead of the old method of a blown out match head. Only ruined one line. Rick L.
  3. There's so much more that could be done to this kit, I'm going to do another one. Fix the little stuff, add the resin interior, maybe an engine. Learn how to shoot better depth of field photos.... things like that. Rick L.
  4. I might as well play before this theme goes away. Good old Monogram kit, PollyScale paints, Starfighter decals, and 2 pound monofiliment rigging. Rick L.
  5. Really hits home seeing those pictures. How many Christmas parties have any of us been to where the dress code was a rifle? Not me. Reminds me; I gotta go pray for some people... Rick L.
  6. Gil, you win the award for the most inovative use of Waldron P-51 armament placards! Looking great! Keep it coming. Rick L.
  7. The Hobbycraft F2H-3/4 is not much better. Fits good all around, but it needs fixing here and there. The intake engineering is a bad joke. You have to blank off the gun troughs so you don't see straight across the fuselage. Decals were a lot of trouble. Minimalistic cockpit, which you can't see through the one piece closed canopy. Shallow main wheel wells. Trench like panel lines. All doable with enough time and effort I guess. At the end of the build I just felt like I would rather spend the time on something else. Rick L.
  8. Gorgeous! That's a brute of ship. Rick L.
  9. It was mostly overcast which helped cause it was only 99 then. First airshow I've shot in about 7 years so I might be a bit rusty. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v626/Highflight/siouxfallsairshow2012/ Rick L.
  10. Constellation C-54 AJ Savage a second on the FJ-3 Fury and F2H-2 Banshee X-2 XP-67 P-80A Scimitar Javelin sooooo many others. Where do your stop? Rick L.
  11. Seconded. All in favor.... Rick L.
  12. Now yer modeling... Rick L. ps. not that you weren't before..
  13. I made several attempts to push for just such a group build over on another site that has pretty good participation in GBs. It has always been met with mostly yawns. Everybody is interested in what new stuff is being released THIS week, and has it been reviewed yet. I still like the idea. Change of pace, or whatever. We all have old kits in the pile and they aren't as involved to build them as more recent subjects. Off the top of my head I can think of a Renwal Nike missile, a Hawk Travel Air Mystery ship, a Revell 1/426 USS Arizona, an Ertl 1/25 John Deere 4440 tractor, and dozens of other such kits hiding in my pile. Almost all of them have back stories that bring back memories. I would bet I can even do a better job of building them now than I did way back when. Well, I would hope I could. No guarantees. Rick L.
  14. A politician, a celebrity, and an armor modeler walk into a status bar. The bartender yells, "Hey you guys can't come in here!" The armor modeler replys, "It's OK. They're with me." (cricket) Tough crowd, tough crowd. Rick L.
  15. You should bump everybody's up to like 50% for a day and then blame it on solar flares. That would liven things up a bit... Rick L.
  16. "Quality Time" in my world refers to an entirely different activity, which, now that I think about it produces much the same results as alot of my modeling. If that is what you refer to as a "decent" model then much of my modeling efforts do indeed rightfully belong in the toilet. Beautiful work of a beautiful airplane. Well done tribute. Rick L.

    T-29

I hope the kit I build in the future turns out as nice as yours did. I saw a restored T-29 at the SASM this summer and it inspired me to get the kit too. Well done! Why are there three MiGs attacking a C-131 on the box art? And isn't the one in the foreground about to have a mid-air with the subject? A little Berlin corridor harrasement? Rick L.
  18. The few. The brave. The AMT Bomber alumni. Great job! If it's giving you no fits or problems, count yourself either lucky or just better than most everybody else. It's a kit notorious for it's fit issues. But if it's working out well for you, roll on! I like your ideas for a production in service airframe with appropriate markings. That will make it stand out even more than it already does. Looking forward to more progress! Rick L. (XB-70 class of '95)
  19. Well done, Gil! I love what some people can do with older kits. Very inspiring. Rick L.
  20. Naval Fighters Number Thirty One http://www.ebay.com/itm/Model-Airplane-book-Grumman-XF5F-1-XP-50-Skyrocket-pictures-1980s-33-pgs-specs-/320761498076?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaee009dc Eduard photoetch #48285 for XF5F Rick L.
  21. That is the definition of fabulous modeling! Great subject, too. Rick L.
  22. 1/48 F-105B injection. No fooling around with difficult to find conversions. 1/350 USS Enterprise CV-6. No fooling around with expensive conversions. 1/48 F4H-1 Phantom injection. No fooling around with both of the above! 1/48 TF-9J two seat Cougar, now that Collect Aire = collectable 148 T-37B Pilot maker on par with the Greatest Generation's T-6. Why no kit of this yet? Hey Trumpeter, how about some nice 1/350 WWII British aircraft carriers like Ark Royal, or a 1950's Eagle? To many others to list. Rick L.
