  4. In an attempt to enlarge my Medusa collection I picked up the offering from Greenwell Studio quite a while ago. Looking for something to build, I dug deep and pulled this out of my stash pile. First thing I noticed was that her snakes were really tentacles. OK... Close enuff, lets get on with it. In the kit there were 3 tentacles that had to be glued on to the head, with no readily apparent place for them. First job was to find an old pic that gave me a clue. Base colors started - Working on the tentacles - Didn't like the purple on the tentacles, and also changed a few other things. Worked on the eyes and of course goofed one of them up. The R eye is a two timer. 😉 But all done.

  5. Ok, so I can't stop building them. This one is from Aradia Miniatures 75mm Dante Inferno collection. A very well done kit, but m,y love hate relationship with Aradia models is there's a certain order you need to assemble the parts, which they don't tell you. You only find out 2/3s the way thru when major sub-assemblies don't fit - hence the "broken" spear on the stone soldier... Oh well... Alsio tried OSL again. Thanks for looking.

  8. With the national called off, I got busy doing some figure painting. The busts are from Nuts Planet, and Youngs miniatures. The girls with the goggles is Honey Bee and I have no idea what company made her (she was a gift). I cheat and use Archer eyes and some other decals on parts of the figures. I did paint the leopard skins on the Hussars free hand. I do make my own bases. The armor I did with Alclad. The rest is oils over enamels. The Opalinski brothers are real people that are also characters in some books by Eric Flint. Dak

  9. A great bust, with a lot of detail. I purchased this bust, and another one, from the SABOT Miniatures website for a very reasonable price. Went together pretty good. The headset/oxygen mask wires were a bit tricky to form. The entire bust was painted with a combination of acrylic paints (Tamiya/P3 Formula). I still need to work on painting eyes, and blending flesh tones/ 5 o'clock shadow. I used spare decals from my stash for the first aid kit, and the life vest. The stitching on the webbing was a challenge. On to the next one. Chris

  11. All, This one sat on my shelf for a few months unfinished. After repainting the head three times, I felt it would be a good idea to set it aside for awhile. The figure was painted with P3 paints, and tester enamels. To simulate melted snow on his helmet, I used Testors gloss coat. Still working on my figure painting skills. My hat goes off to you figure guys. Much respect. Chris

  12. This is another kit that was deep in the pile. My favorite Cryptid, Mothman! I'm surprised I waited this long to build it up. I picked this up from Jean StJean Studios. It came in 5 parts of gray resin. There were very few noticeable seam lines, and clean up was very quick. Now, the typical description of the monster is a black being with wings, and bright red eyes. But being that a lot of nice detail was sculpted into the wings, I couldn't just leave the entire thing black. The wings had "eyespots" on the inner and outer wing, so I mimicked the eyes with some of V's Black Red. Toward the top of the "eye" I lightened the red a bit. Then there was this crosshatching along both sides of the wings. I gave that some light gray on the outside and a darker gray on the inside. From there the body was painted in V's Black Gray, and then highlighted with some Medium Dark gray. The creases got a was of Nuln Oil. But then I didn't want it to be too monotone, and gave the whole thing a misting a Army Painter's Blue tone with the airbrush. The eyes were painted gloss black, in prep for V's White Aluminum, and then some Transparent Red. The base is rubble with the creature perched on some of the iron bridge remnants. I have the rubble a few browns and blacks, and the iron was painted steel, with a few different rust colors. I then added dots here and there of the Molotow Chrome for sparkle. I looked up and found an image for the newspaper for the day the Silver Bridge collapsed. As soon as I get more ink for my printer, 😛 I'll print that out an add it to the rubble. Thanks for looking.

  13. All, After taking the figure painting class here in Louisville, I wanted to strip, and repaint the bust. I was never really happy with the first attempt. After trying to fix areas on his face, with no improvement, I decided it was finished. After some careful disassembly, I began the stripping process. His hat was the only thing that was not stripped. In a small metal cup, filled with Lacquer Thinner, I used an old brush to start removing the paint. With my first attempt, I used a combination of acrylics, enamels, and oils. The thinner did not attack the resin. After the paint was stripped off, I let the pieces sit for about 15 minutes. During our class, we were given a very detailed "Step by step" process on painting our figure. The first time I painted it, I used a combination of Vallejo, Model Master Enamels, and AK Products. (All, very good paint products) For the second attempt, I used the paints that we were provided in class (Formula P3). The one thing that stands out with these paints, is their pigment saturation. Even after being thinned with water( and I mean, thinned) they still retained their pigment. Brett Avants quote for the day, "Thin is in". Because of the pigment, the thinned paints, allow you to, gradually build up the layers as you go. Granted, I've got a ways to go, but these paints have made things easier for me. Happy Painting! Chris P.S. In my second attempt, he seems to have contracted "Lazy eye, in his left eye.", which I'm eventually going to fix.

  14. Over the years, I've pretty much stayed away from figures all together, because of painting flesh. An arm or a hand exposed was ok, as long as the face was FULLY covered. About two years ago, I started incorporating figures in my dioramas. A friend of mine, in our local club, does mostly figures, painted strictly with artist oils. His results are amazing. He's given me quite a bit of info on how he does his. His main advice was to check on YouTube for tutorials. I decided to get my "feet wet", starting with acrylics (some enamels for the eyes). The bust was painted with a mixture of Vallejo, and AK Flesh and Skin Colors. The leather jacket was a custom mix of two different Tamiya browns. I would usually apply a wash to his jacket for depth. I instead decided to drybrush just the high areas. I used Testors Model Master bright brown first. After it dried, the high areas looked more bronze than anything. I toned it down Naples Yellow Hue (artist oils). The cord and emblems on his hat were painted with Tamiya flat aluminum. I applied a dark wash on these items after they dried. The yellow bead around his hat is Testors yellow. The brim of his hat was painted with Tamiya gloss black. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Chris

  15. Here is the last of three works I've started over the years, and finally got around to painting. The mounted figure I did about ten years ago and started working on the setting figure sometime later. Both figures are made out of recycled plastics. Most of the mounted figure is from an old HP printer case. There is a howto in this forum and I'll leave a link if anyone is interested.
